Nearly 20 years after Burn the Floor sparked their swoon-worthy love story, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are officially making their return to the stage.
“It feels wild,” Murgatroyd, 40, told Us exclusively while announcing a new version of the show titled Burn the Floor Presents Maks and Peta Live!
She continued, “I had always hoped that this call would come through one day — that Burn the Floor is coming back to America, I can join up again, we can go back to Broadway, maybe. But it just feels so surreal and just really special that we can do this again.”
Murgatroyd joined Burn the Floor in 2004, five years before the show opened on Broadway with Chmerkovskiy, 46, in the cast. The Broadway run ended in early 2010 before the company kicked off a world tour. (Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd began dating in 2012, tying the knot in 2017.)
“It’s just a dream come true to be able to come back and relive all those amazing memories,” Murgatroyd gushed to Us, adding that the full-circle moment felt “really special.”
Chmerkovskiy said getting the opportunity to revisit Burn the Floor, which originally formed in 1997, was a sign from “the universe” that it was time for him and Murgatroyd to hit the stage again together.
“How special that this was where we met and how much connective tissue there is between Peta’s attachment to the show itself and mine. … We couldn’t be happier,” he said. “It’s a dream come true.”
The season 18 mirrorball champion emphasized that he and Murgatroyd wouldn’t have said yes if they had any doubts about delivering an incredible show. Even the “logistics” of parenting on the road — the couple share three sons — couldn’t stand in their way.
As for their dynamic in the studio nearly a decade into their marriage, Murgatroyd joked that there are “good days” and “bad days.”
“I think the upside is that we know each other so well, you know?” Chmerkovskiy chimed in. “The headbutting is different now, especially with her. To me, where I’m at today, this is the last person I want to fight with — literally — in addition to all the other things that we’re dealing with. So it’s actually been a pretty interesting and different experience.”
Despite any potential quarrels, Murgatroyd is simply looking forward to getting to dance with her husband. “Let’s connect. Let’s dance. … Let’s get people on their feet,” she said. “I miss that live audience interaction.”
Burn the Floor Presents Maks and Peta Live! will bring together a new cast of ballroom and Latin dancers with thrilling choreography showcasing artistry and athleticism like never before. The North American tour begins in March 2027 and will continue for two months, concluding in May.
“This isn’t a Maks and Peta family trip around America … and it’s not a competitive opportunity,” Chmerkovskiy told Us. “It is an opportunity to bring the cast of Burn the Floor, professionals who have been lighting up the floor all over the world.”
According to Chmerkovskiy, “joy” is at the center of the Burn the Floor philosophy, which he hopes comes across to everyone in the audience.
“In the world that we live in, everything is so hot and fiery. … Come with us [and] just open your eyes to something else,” he added. “Let us entertain you.”
