The Valley star Brittany Cartwright has been granted a temporary protective order against her estranged husband, Jax Taylor.

Cartwright, 37, filed a restraining order request in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, August 27, accusing Taylor, 47, of domestic violence, according to court documents viewed by Us. (TMZ was first to report the news.)

According to Cartwright, Taylor had allegedly exhibited “coercive control, financial abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, gaslighting and even physical violence perpetrated upon” her for nearly a decade. She also claimed that he once threatened to “gut [her] like a fish” and physically attacked her.

A judge granted the petition, ordering Taylor to stay 100 yards away from Cartwright but denied her request for sole custody of their 5-year-old son, Cruz, until a court hearing.

Taylor has not publicly addressed the accusations. Us reached out for comment.

Cartwright and Taylor were married from 2019 to 2024, and their divorce proceedings are ongoing.

“We’re working on getting the house appraised,” Cartwright, who has primary custody of Cruz, exclusively told Us in April, adding that she was hopeful to “get another date set” once the appraisal was completed. “Everything should be good to go after that.”

Cartwright and Taylor have since reunited for multiple settlement conferences that have continually stalled the proceedings.

“Jax has been wanting to move this case forward to completion for a long time. The idea that he is the reason holding up the divorce is completely false,” Taylor’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told Us in a statement last month. “Jax is doing everything he can to move forward. He participated in an all-day conference only to be informed upon arrival that Brittany had no documents and no financial documents prepared, which rendered the entire process and the hearing useless.”

The lawyer added, “Jax believes it’s in everyone’s best interest, especially their son’s interest, and is hopeful Brittany’s side will achieve that goal. It’s impossible to settle a case when only one party is seemingly motivated to do so.”

A source close to Cartwright subsequently denied that the Special Forces alum had been intentionally delaying the legal battle.

“The statements suggesting that she is responsible for delaying their divorce are simply not true,” the insider told Us in July. “Brittany has participated in this process in good faith, and remains committed to reaching a fair resolution for everyone involved, especially their son.”

Per the source, Cartwright and Taylor’s divorce was “delayed on multiple occasions” following “unresolved financial issues” and Taylor’s previous rehab stays. (Taylor, who has been candid about mental health treatment, checked himself into a 90-day treatment program in 2024.)

“She will continue addressing these matters in court, where they belong, rather than through the media,” the source added at the time. “Her focus has always been on protecting their son, resolving this matter fairly, and moving forward with her life.”

Amid their divorce negotiations, Taylor moved on with Cartwright’s former publicist Lori Krebs. While Cartwright claimed to be blindsided by the new romance, both Taylor and Krebs have denied any relationship overlap.
