World-famous Tokyo restaurant popping up in LA for just two days as master chef flys in from Japan to serve

One of the world’s most impossible restaurant reservations is coming to Los Angeles, no passport or months-long booking battle required.

Tokyo’s Tonkatsu Narikura, widely considered one of the best tonkatsu restaurants on the planet, is bringing its famously elusive dining experience to Brothers Sushi for just two nights this month, per Eater.

If you’ve ever tried to score a table at Narikura, you know the struggle is real. The tiny Tokyo restaurant has earned a reputation for being nearly impossible to book, with food lovers treating a confirmed reservation like they’ve hit the jackpot.

“My god this place is impossible to book,” one commenter wrote on a YouTube review of the restaurant. “Alongside ramen ya shima. Sometimes even harder to book than the omakase places.”

The reviewer replied, “Agree! I felt so lucky when I was able to secure the reservation.”

Now, Chef Seizo Mitani is taking the pressure off, at least temporarily. He’ll fly in from Japan to join Brothers Sushi chef-owner Mark Okuda for an exclusive pop-up on Sunday, July 19, in Culver City and Monday, July 20, in Santa Monica.

The collaboration will feature Narikura’s famous “blonde” tonkatsu, a pork cutlet cooked low and slow to create a delicate, lightly golden crust rather than the darker, quick-fried style more common in the US. Chef Mitani is even bringing his signature breadcrumbs from Japan and will prepare the dish using premium pork from Peads & Barnetts.

The $150 ticket includes a six-course meal along with rice, soup and dessert. Reservations are available through Tock for Culver City or Santa Monica.

For LA diners, this may be the easiest they’ll ever have it when it comes to Narikura. Instead of planning an entire trip to Tokyo and hoping the reservation gods smile upon you, all you have to do is beat everyone else in Los Angeles to the booking page. No pressure.
