A woman who was seen in terrifying footage screaming for help as she was carried away from a Kansas home in a feared abduction has been found safe, according to authorities.
Cops received a phone call around 3 p.m. on Tuesday from a woman claiming to be the abductee captured yelling in a doorbell video as she was carried down a block by a man who snatched her in front of a Wichita house, the Wichita Police Department said in a statement.
Investigators responded to her location and transported her to City Hall for a victim interview, cops said.
She has been identified as a 35-year-old woman who lives in the area where the startling video was captured at around 2 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The incident is believed to be a case of domestic violence where the woman was victimized by her boyfriend, according to police.
She does not have any significant injuries, authorities added.
Police were alerted to the incident when the homeowner saw the terrifying possible abduction on their doorbell camera.
The woman screamed out a man’s name at least twice after he wrapped both arms around her and carried her away.
The video was released by cops on Monday, who begged for the public’s help to identify the man and woman.
“Our main concern is the safety and welfare of the woman seen in that video,” police Chief Joe Sullivan said in a fresh appeal earlier Tuesday.
Police had offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the alleged victim and had requested additional help from regional and federal authorities.
“We want to thank the public for sharing the video and still images that generated additional attention about this incident. We do believe it led the female to call us, saying she was the person we were looking for,” the Wichita Police Department wrote.
An investigation into the video and case will be presented to “the appropriate attorney’s office for formal charging consideration,” cops said.
