What to Know About ABC’s ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Spinoff: Returning Cast Members and More

ABC’s highly anticipated spinoff of 9-1-1 is in the works — but what is there to know about the show so far?

9-1-1 initially premiered on Fox in 2018 and introduced viewers to the professional and personal lives of Los Angeles first responders. The show, which starred Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds and Kenneth Choi, remained on the network until 2023.

After Fox canceled 9-1-1, ABC swooped in and renewed the show for a seventh season. 9-1-1 has continued to find success on ABC, but its first spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, hasn’t had the same luck.

9-1-1: Lone Star followed a New York firefighter (played by Rob Lowe) who relocated to Texas while trying to balance his job with issues in his own life. Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra McClain, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael L. Silva, Julian Works and Gina Torres made up the rest of the cast.

By 2023, 9-1-1: Lone Star was renewed for its fifth and final season after remaining on Fox. The franchise, however, has continued to grow with cocreators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear hinting at another location setting the scene for a new spinoff, which turned out to be Nashville.

Keep scrolling for everything to know about the upcoming 9-1-1 spinoff:

Where Is the ‘9-1-1’ Spinoff Set?

ABC announced that Nashville is the next location after picking the series up in February 2025.

What Is the Vision for the New Series?

In October 2024, Murphy teased the “fun” spinoff while speaking to Variety, saying, “Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall. Sadly, we all love Lone Star, but the financials just didn’t work. It’s a Disney company that was on a Fox network, and it just was never going to work. And we had a long run of it.”

He continued: “So now we’re going to launch a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s fun. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.”

When Will the Spinoff Premiere on ABC?

The second 9-1-1 spinoff series is set to premiere Thursday, October 9, at 9 p.m. ET.

Variety broke the news in August 2025 that country star Kane Brown will appear in the first episode. He was spotted filming a live concert scene in Nashville that same month.

Will Characters From ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Make Cameos?

“I have no current plans for that,” Minear revealed to TVLine in November 2024. “But it’s not impossible!”

In March 2025, Chris O’Donnell was announced in the lead role. He will play Captain Don Sharpe a.k.a “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son.” According to the official character breakdown, Don is “devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.” Jessica Capshaw joined the show one month later.

Who Else Will Star in ‘9-1-1: Nashville’?

After O’Donnell, Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley were confirmed as official cast members for the upcoming spinoff, news broke that even more familiar faces will join the show.

On June 3, Variety reported that Raising Kanan’s Hailey Kilgore, The Sex Lives of College Girl’s Michael Provost, Harlem’s Juani Feliz and Hunter McVey have all been cast for 9-1-1: Nashville.

Kilgore, McVey and Provost are expected to portray firefighters, while Feliz will play a former trauma surgeon. McVey has also been confirmed to be playing Rimes’ son on the show.
