Wendy’s has brought back its Sweet and Sour dipping sauce after months of backlash from customers.

The sauce was scrapped in September 2025 as part of a broader menu shake-up that cut several originals, including Ghost Pepper Ranch and BBQ, and introduced a new lineup featuring Signature, Scorchin’ Hot, Creamy Ranch, Honey BBQ, Honey Mustard and Sweet Chili.

The move to drop Sweet and Sour triggered a wave of complaints from fans which forced the burger chain to reverse course in December.

“After nearly seven months of thousands of social media comments, posts and tags demanding its return, the beloved tangy, savory dip is back,” a spokesperson told USA TODAY on Monday.

The sauce officially returned April 27 — but with a catch.

Wendy’s said it is only back for a limited time unless customers “show us how much they love it by ordering the sauce and by liking, commenting and sharing this post” on Instagram.

“At Wendy’s, we’re always listening to our fans — and they made it clear they wanted Sweet and Sour sauce back,” a spokesperson said.

“It’s available now for a limited time only. However, Wendy’s fans can ultimately determine if it sticks around by ordering the sauce with their meals and getting loud on social media.”

Content creator Jaz Smith was among those who pushed for the condiment’s comeback, posting a TikTok video in October saying she was “appalled” by the decision.

“This is so serious,” Smith said. “I think Wendy’s has the best sweet and sour, and I’m appalled that they would do such a thing. So this is my plea to Wendy’s to bring back sweet and sour.”

In December, Wendy’s tapped Smith to share the update.

“No dream is ever too big,” Smith said in a TikTok video. “You guys, we did it … I had a call with Wendy’s and they agree that the sauce does need to come back.

“It will take some time to bring back, but there will be some exciting things in the meantime.”

Fans shared similar sentiments when Wendy’s revealed the sauce returned to its menus.

“I’ve been out of the US for 8 years and did not know this tragic news that sweet and sour isn’t a regular sauce anymore??” one user wrote.

“It’s literally my childhood and every child deserves to have their nuggets with sweet and sour.”

“This sauce is my roman empire. PLEASE dont get rid of it again,” another wrote.

Others issued playful warnings.

“If you get rid of sweet and sour again i will sit at the door of your headquarters and yowl like a stray cat,” one comment read.

“I swear if you guys take it back and hurt me like this again this relationship is over,” another added.

Some customers used the moment to push for more returns.

“I would pretty please like to see ghost pepper ranch return also,” one user wrote.

For now, fans may want to stock up on Sweet and Sour — just in case the sauce disappears again.
