Grocery shoppers have a long list of foods to avoid after recalls and cyclospora continue to horrify consumers.

The Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter — exclusively sold at Walmart — has officially received Class I status after an August 3 voluntary recall found a link to possible Salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has three recall statuses, changed its classification on August 26 to the highest risk, which means those who consume it could face serious illness or even death.

Yes, it’s that serious.

The FDA has three recall classes:

  • Class I: Highest risk — could cause serious illness or death
  • Class II: May cause temporary or medically reversible health problems; serious consequences are unlikely
  • Class III: Unlikely to cause an adverse health reaction, but the product violates FDA regulations

Those who have the product with the codes mentioned are urged by the FDA to return it immediately for a full refund.

The Post reached out to Walmart for comment.

Salmonella symptoms to keep an eye on may include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the FDA, salmonella may be able to enter the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis — but only in rare circumstances.

Shoppers are urged to contact a health care professional if you experience the following:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
  • Signs of dehydration, such as not urinating much, dry mouth and throat, and feeling dizzy when standing up

The Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter was originally recalled on August 3 after a contamination risk. Botticelli Foods — the company that makes the item — issued the recall after a potential salmonella contamination, according to the FDA report.

Walmart first learned of the potential contamination on July 17, when the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services did a routine inspection, checking three of the jars of the butter at a store, identifying the presence of salmonella.

The company then voluntarily recalled 16,200 jars that were distributed to Walmart stores across 19 states.

The Pistachio Nut Butter was sold in 6.7-ounce glass jars with the UPC code 194346207961. The lot code is LB028ACP04 with an expiration date of January 28, 2027.

The butter was manufactured by Gustibus Alimentari Srl of Assoro, Italy, and imported by Botticelli. It is then distributed exclusively by Walmart, according to the recall.
