A Walmart dresser is coming apart at the seams after a recall affecting thousands of units.

The Mainstays 9-Drawer Fabric dresser has been recalled after 165,000 units were found to be a tip-over hazard for children.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled Mainstay dressers are unstable if not anchored to the wall and can pose tip-over and entrapment hazards, resulting in serious injuries or death to small humans. As a result, the dressers fail to meet the safety standards under the STURDY Act.

Furniture tip-overs have long been a concern for child safety advocates. According to federal safety regulators, dressers, chests, and other clothing storage units can become unstable when children climb on open drawers or attempt to pull themselves up.

The incidents have been linked to dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries over the years, prompting Congress to pass the STURDY Act in 2022. The law established stronger stability requirements for clothing storage units sold in the United States and requires manufacturers to account for real-world scenarios, including children climbing on furniture and the weight of fully loaded drawers.

The dressers in question are designed by Mainstays, one of Walmart’s largest private-label brands that creates and offers budget-friendly home essentials. The fabric dressers have a black metal frame and nine drawers, each with a handle, in brown or black fabric.

Standing at nearly four feet tall and weighing 32 pounds, almost the size of a small child, the Vietnam-manufactured drawers have no current reports of injuries. Despite this, the recall instructs customers to immediately stop using the recalled dressers that are not anchored to the wall and place them in an area that children cannot access.

Purchasers can contact Walmart for a full refund and are also asked to return dresser drawers to any Walmart store and dispose of the dresser’s frames in accordance with local and state regulations.

Made from September 2023 through December 2025, the $80 dresser was sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com.

The newest recall follows a series of products pulled from Walmart shelves, including food and everyday items.

The budget retailer states that recalls are conducted “with a commitment to customer health and safety” to ensure safe, compliant products. In the event of a product recall, the goal is to act swiftly to block the item from sale.

But even as recently as a few weeks ago, Walmart pulled several child-related products from its shelves, including Wiifo Children’s Tower Stools, which were sold on Amazon between June 2022 and March 2026 and affected nearly 10,000 units, resulting in more than 22 incidents of stools collapsing and a handful of injuries.

Also, at the end of April, Walmart recalled children’s toys that posed a choking hazard.

BlissfulDestiny Magnetic Stick Figure Sets sold on Walmart.com from May 2025 to October 2025 were recalled for violating the mandatory toy safety standard.
