President Trump is hitting Long Island on Friday to unveil a new FBI crime report showing the largest year-to-year decrease in violent crime ever recorded, the White House announced.
Trump is planning to tour the Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City along with GOP gubernatorial candidate and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman then will hold a news conference on the specifics of the 2025 Crime Statistics Report, joined by Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel.
“President Trump promised to make America safe again and the data proves he has done just that,” said White House spokesperson Lauren Bis. “Unlike Defund-the-Police Democrats, President Trump will always stand with our law enforcement officers and deliver safer American neighborhoods.”
The report will show that the country, murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased by over 18%, rape dropped almost 8%, robbery fell 18.5% and aggravated assault declined just over 7%, while burglaries decreased roughly 16%, larceny-theft fell about 10% and motor vehicle theft dropped about 23%.
“The 2025 crime data in this report shows the single largest decrease in violent crime and murder since 1937,” Patel, a Long Island native, previously said about the preliminary figures first published in May.
Both the White House and officials from Nassau County credit the drop in reported violence to the president’s ramped-up deportation efforts, the surge in ICE raids, and the closing of the border, which they plan to highlight during Trump’s speech on Friday, Blakeman detailed.
“I think crime is down in many places in the United States because we have sealed the borders,” Blakeman said, adding that crime in Nassau County has also dropped roughly 4% compared to last year, and partly credited Nassau’s own controversial deal with ICE for that drop as well.
Democrat-dominated New York state government has outlawed deals such as Nassau’s, which has prompted Blakeman to sue.
Blakeman has been a longtime ally of Trump and received the president’s backing in his run for governor against Democratic incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Trump’s visit to the island is expected to bring road closures and traffic to accommodate a massive police and law enforcement presence to ensure officials’ safety.
There are various protests planned but demonstrators will be confined to designated protest areas, police officials said at a news conference on Thursday.
