A Texas man has been arrested after he allegedly killed his wife because “she didn’t take his back pain seriously.”

Jose Romero has been charged with murder in connection to his wife Yanira Marin de Romero’s killing on May 2. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Romero, 43, shot Marin de Romero, 39, while the couple was allegedly arguing. The incident took place while she was in a bathroom in their Cloverleaf home.

Three of the couple’s children were at the home at the time of the shooting, according to KHOU. All three children — who are ages 3, 8 and 13 — were unharmed amid the incident.

Following the shooting, police reported to the home and Marin de Romero was found with multiple gunshot wounds. She was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Romero reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers that “he just shot his wife,” according to the police press release.

“Upon arrival, deputies located [Romero] and detained him without incident,” the release stated. “Romero told homicide detectives he shot and killed Yanira Marin de Romero because she didn’t take his back pain seriously.”

Romero was held in custody at Harris County Jail following his arrest.

It is not currently clear if Romero has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding the case.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.

Family member Jacky Romero took to Facebook after the shooting to reflect on the tragedy, sharing insight into how Marin de Romero’s death has impacted their loved ones.

“My heart and our family are shattered, unable to accept this reality,” Jacky wrote in the post shared on May 4. “They were a marriage I could call almost perfect.”

Jacky added that the couple had been by each other’s sides “since their adolescence and they moved forward together,” saying that “they were our family’s pride.”

The Facebook post continued with Jacky explaining that their family is “going through” a “very hard” situation and that the couple’s children “will no longer have their parents together.”

“[Marin de Romero] left this world perhaps without even knowing what happened in that moment,” Jacky added.

In addition to the heartfelt caption, Jacky also shared one photo of the couple posing together and a second snapshot of the couple with their three children.
