Talk about a wedding buzzkill.

AI investor Leopold Aschenbrenner skipped his honeymoon with new wife Avital Balwit after his $45 billion hedge fund was hammered by roughly $30 billion in losses just days before they tied the knot.

The 24-year-old billionaire has since been scrambling to calm nervous investors instead of sipping cocktails on the beach.

The spectacular meltdown of Situational Awareness upended what had already been an unusually Silicon Valley wedding.

Before the ceremony, guests were slated to attend a brainy pre-wedding colloquium devoted to investment ideas and financial trends.

But after the fund was nearly brought to its knees by a barrage of Wall Street margin calls, the couple reportedly ditched the finance talk and pivoted to something a little less painful: life and philosophy.

The lavish celebration still went ahead on a private Tuscan-style estate in the Bay Area, complete with networking breakout rooms and a Berghain-inspired DJ set, because, of course, it did.

One guest familiar with the festivities told Vanity Fair the fund’s staggering losses were “a bit of an elephant in the room,” but stressed that “it wasn’t like Aschenbrenner went broke and couldn’t pay for the venue or the caterer.”

Despite the eye-popping collapse, the young investor was still a multibillionaire.

And the AI whiz lives accordingly. Aschenbrenner owns a hidden $18.95 million estate tucked behind gates in San Francisco’s ultra-exclusive Nob Hill neighborhood — a secluded quarter-acre compound that’s nearly impossible to spot from the street.

The historic Boggs-Shenson House features five bedrooms, five bathrooms, manicured Japanese gardens, a putting green, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and sweeping views of San Francisco Bay.

The property is so unusual for densely packed San Francisco that it even boasts its own apple orchard, while its protected historic status prevents future owners from making major changes to the home or its lush grounds.

If anyone expected the newlywed to unplug after saying “I do,” they were mistaken.

Just days after Situational Awareness nearly imploded, Aschenbrenner plowed another $400 million into one of the hedge fund’s privately held portfolio companies, according to Bloomberg News.

The investment followed a separate $100 million infusion into the same company just last month, though its identity has not been disclosed.

The fresh investment marked Aschenbrenner’s first major move as he tries to rebuild Situational Awareness after its near-collapse.

His biggest post-wedding commitment, however, wasn’t to a tropical getaway.

Instead of a honeymoon, Aschenbrenner has reportedly spent the week on a marathon of one-on-one phone calls aimed at reassuring rattled investors that the fund still has a future.

Financial columnists couldn’t resist pointing out the irony.

“You might think that between evaporating tens of billions of dollars of investor money and getting married, he might take a break from investing in AI,” Matt Levine wrote in Money Stuff. “But I gather the essential thesis of Situational Awareness is that the pace of AI is faster, and the stakes are higher, than you think. There’s no time to stop investing in AI just because you blew up a giant hedge fund!”

Unlike many hedge funds of its size, Situational Awareness is backed largely by wealthy individuals and family offices around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Dubbed the “Nostradamus of AI,” Aschenbrenner met his fiancée Balwit while the pair worked at FTX. She now serves as chief of staff to Anthropic’s CEO.
