Bell has frozen over again.
Taco Bell is catering to nostalgic Tex-Mex fans by introducing a brand new ice cream taco for a limited time.
Created in collaboration with Oregon-based ice-cream company Salt & Straw, the Churro Ice Cream Taco ($3.99) features a taco-shaped waffle cone filled with churro ice, per a recent press release. This crispy carapace is finished with dark chocolate that’s studded with puffed rice for a crunchy finish.
Taco Bell hopes this throwback treat will replicate the success of last year’s Tacolate, the cult-classic hybrid that entailed a waffle cone taco shell stuffed with cinnamon ancho chili ice cream, and baptized in chocolate and toasted brown rice.
The chimeric dish became an instant hit, selling out upon launch weekend, and taking social media by storm.
“We knew Tacolate was special, but the response completely blew us away – and our guests made it clear they wanted it to stick around,” declared Tyler Malek, co-founder and head ice cream maker at Salt & Straw. “So when we had the chance to take the idea beyond our shops with Taco Bell, we wanted to dream up something completely new.”
Whereas the Tacolate was only available at Salt & Straw stores, the Churro Ice Cream Taco is exclusively sold at Taco Bell.
Those who miss the first wave of this frozen treat need not fear.
On September 8, Taco Bell Rewards have another chance to land the Salt & Straw Churro Ice Cream Tacos via an extra sweet Tuesday Drop: a limited-edition cooler filled with three of the sweet treats.
They simply enter through the app to win this ice chest. Although they better hurry as only 100 are up for grabs.
These new releases hark back to the Choco Taco, taco-shaped waffle cone filled with vanilla ice cream and finished with milk chocolate and with peanuts. This flagship ice cream taco was retired in 2022, but Taco Bell hopes that these new editions will help woo a whole new generation of Tex-Mex-loving sweet tooths.
And that’s not the only ice-cold collaboration between the Tex-Mex chain and Salt & Straw.
As part of the promotion, the beverage-focused Live Más Café will be offering a Salt & Straw Choco-Waffle Chiller, a vanilla milkshake and featuring churro crumbles, waffle cone bits, and a chocolately shell.
This decadent $4.69 drinkable dessert will be available at select locations in California, Las Vegas, Houston and Dallas while supplies last.
