It was “armed” and dangerous!
Wild footage shows the moment an octopus latched onto a fisherman’s face with an eight-armed death grip — forcing him to club the critter to avoid suffocating.
Jesser Cervantes was on wooden dinghy near the Philippines last month when he reeled in the spunky sea creature and it suddenly latched onto his face, according to the UK Sun.
He desperately tried to peel off the tentacle-waving terror as it spread around his head — at one point covering his mouth with is powerful suckers and refusing to budge, footage shows.
To escape the sucky situation, he grabbed a cut bamboo stem and repeatedly hit the octopus to loosen its grip.
The marine menace eventually let go and Cervantes tossed it back into the ocean, catching his breath after the terrifying game of tug-of-war.
“The octopus I caught was very hard to handle. It almost ripped my face,” said Cervantes, who caught the creature near Puerto Princesa Island in Palawan on July 10.
Octopuses have incredible intelligence, powerful suckers and flexible bodies that allow them to cling tightly to prey and almost any surface.
Each of their hundreds of suckers function as independent, airtight vacuum seals powered by their decentralized nervous systems, making it almost impossible to remove one without peeling away each limb.
