Flames erupted across more than 40 acres in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley early Monday, triggering evacuations and a major emergency response near Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
The blaze broke out around 9:30 a.m. near the split between Interstates 5 and 805 and quickly spread at a moderate rate.
Evacuations were underway in areas surrounding Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, with officials establishing a temporary evacuation site at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park.
The fire also forced the closure of Sorrento Valley Boulevard between Vista Sorrento Parkway and Camino Santa Fe, according to San Diego police.
About 145 firefighting personnel from multiple agencies were assigned to the incident, reported NBC7.
Initial attack efforts included at least two firefighting helicopters and several engines before additional aircraft and roughly a dozen more engines were requested.
No injuries or damage had been reported as of Monday morning. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
