Sheriff’s deputies open fire on suspect in quiet Chino Hills street after disturbing discovery in trunk

California sheriff’s deputies have opened fire on a man after he popped his trunk and they allegedly found a dead body inside.

Footage showed cops stop a car in a quiet Chino Hills neighborhood on Wednesday night before a passenger got out and walked towards deputies with his hands up.

But the driver acted strangely, remaining in his seat before opening and closing his door before letting the vehicle slightly roll forward.

He then got out with his hands raised before changing his mind and going back into the car to retrieve something.

He was then seen going to the trunk and opening it. Not long after, smoke from deputies’ guns is seen as they opened fire on him, and the driver and his passenger duck to the ground.

The suspect’s car was a Nissan Altima with Oregon plates.

More footage showed yellow tape around the scene of the 2400 block of Wandering Ridge Drive. A white sheet on a body was on the ground with homicide investigators present.

It was unclear if the suspect was armed or the condition of the passenger.

“This evening, there was a deputy-involved shooting in the 2400 block of Wandering Ridge Drive. No deputies were injured,” the Chino Hills Police Department wrote in an Instagram post.

“Residents can expect a continued law enforcement presence in the area as the investigation remains ongoing.

“At this time, there are no outstanding suspects, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community,” they added.

Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
