Times are tough.

When you RSVP yes to a wedding, you shouldn’t be agreeing to pay for the bride and groom’s wedding. Unfortunately, though, that’s exactly what happened to guests, where a couple asked them to help pay for the venue and accommodations.

The tea was piping hot in the r/weddingshaming forum on Reddit with this story, shared by one of the bridesmaids. The post explained how the couple picked a venue that is a 7-hour drive for most of the guests, two hours from the nearest airport.

“They decided to rent a big house as opposed to a more traditional venue because big homes are popular where they are getting married. They are asking every family member and member of the wedding party to stay for the whole week leading up to the wedding in the house that will be the venue,” the post read.

“On top of requesting everyone to stay for the week, they are also asking everyone to pay for their stay in the house. They are charging couples $1200 for the stay and single people $600, essentially making everyone pay for their venue.

“They also seem to be very offended when people don’t want to stay for the week, as if it is an issue, and fully expect to be making the money back for the wedding by doing this,” the original poster continued.

Talk about a crazy ask.

As wild as this scenario is, as more couples are paying for weddings themselves, they seem to be going to extremes by either skimping out on things or having insane requests for their guests.

One couple had a “disaster wedding” where they had the nerve to charge guests $2 for water — on a scorching hot summer day.

Another savvy couple actually sold tickets to their NYC wedding.

Having loved ones helping fund their lavish wedding reportedly saved the newlyweds $70,000 — money the couple wants to put toward starting a family and potentially creating a foundation for couples undergoing IVF treatments.

A husband and wife had a Monday morning brunch wedding to spare their wallets.

Anything to save a buck in this economy.
