Furious foodies are at tipping point.

Publicly shaming patrons into leaving hefty tips for waiters is, apparently, not the slam-dunk strategy one restauranteur had hoped it would be. Now, cheesed-off chowhounds are viciously, virally blasting the boneheaded boss for bullying customers to pay his staff a decent salary.

“Our servers make $3.50 [per hour]…If you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to dine out,” reads a bulletin crudely taped to the window of unidentified eatery. In New York, the hourly minimum wage was recently set to $17 in the five boroughs and $16 throughout the rest of the state.

The unmannerly missive, presumably penned by the establishment’s management, is trending online, scaring up more than 2.6 million X views from a divided digital audience, debating the do’s and don’t’s of tipping culture.

Although it’s customary for most restaurant-goers to gift their waiters a few extra bucks for good grub and sublime service, tipping has become a bone of contention for US diners over the past few years.

While a recent Popmenu survey found that 78% of consumers believe tipping practices “have become ridiculous,” folks in favor of tipping — namely New York Knicks fanatics, giddy that their team has secured the 2026 NBA Championship — are gladly leaving giant sums in gratuity.

A heated exchange erupted on social media after food lovers accused Dave & Buster’s of running a tipping “scam” by covertly inflating the 20% standard. Outraged arguers deemed the alleged swindle “shady” and said “tipping culture is a travesty at this point.”

Papa John’s came under a nearly identical fire in April, when pizza lovers discovered that new guilt-tripping messaging had been inked onto the fast-food joint’s delivery boxes. “DELIVERY FEE IS NOT A TIP. Please reward your driver for outstanding service,” read the notice, which sent thunderbolts of fury through irked gourmands on the internet.

“Companies telling us to tip their workers knowing they won’t pay them is crazy lol,” yelped a virtual critic, who was likely not “laughing out loud” while typing the quip.

Similar sentiments are currently circulating throughout cyberspace thanks to the unnamed restaurant owner’s unsettling signage.

“If you can’t afford to pay your employees, then don’t open a restaurant,” an unamused commenter tweeted, in part, responding to the guy’s problematic post. “It’s not our job to pay the salaries of your employees. Tips should not be an excuse to evade your legal responsibilities.”

“I tip well, and if I saw this sign, I probably wouldn’t even go in there,” spat an equally irked eater.

“$3.50 is a complete disgrace,” another barked.

“Paying anyone $3.50 an hour to work for you should be a crime,” insisted an advocate, who’s views were echoed by offended onlookers that blasted the restaurant executive for his “ridiculous” behavior.

“But I can afford to tell this restaurant to f- -k right off!,” another wrote. “Take a percentage of that”
