Renee Good’s kindergarten son attends a small “social justice” elementary school that teaches about George Floyd and “aboriginal issues” — and recently warned staffers to report nearby ICE agents, The Post has learned.
Good, 37 — who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis Wednesday — has a 6-year-old at the Southside Family Charter School, which believes in “involving children in political and social activism” to fight “racism, sexism, classism and homophobia,” according to its website.
“From my understanding, she was involved in social justice,” former teacher Rashad Rich said of Good. “We are a tight-knit community and a lot of parents are [activists].”
Rich, who resigned as gym instructor last month, said the school teaches students about “current events” — with topics ranging the mass shooting at the local Church of Annunciation last year, to the killing George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020.
“They try to keep current events a part of the school,” he said. “We have circle conversations where we let kids express fears and concerns and sympathy.”
Some students at the grade school, which recently also had middle schoolers, went on trip to learn about “aboriginal issues,” he said.
When hundreds of ICE officials were stationed roughly ten blocks from the school — and tension with protesters began to boil — administrators warned teachers to report potential agents on the property, Rich said.
“We had talked about it if anybody sees ICE around we were to report it,” he said. “[Some parents] were afraid to bring kids to school.”
Good and her partner, Rebecca, often dropped their 6-year-old off at the school together and had tender moments “saying goodbye.”
“He really loved his parents, they walked him into school everyday,” he said, adding they’d often take a long time during the send-offs.
“He’s in a real bad place right now,” Rich said of the child. “It’s a really sad, sad thing.”
The school teaches students ages kindergarten through fifth grade and currently has only about 25 students, Rich said.
It recently also taught through eighth grade, and had a population of 115 during the 2022 to 2023 school year, records show.
The school has a “unique curriculum [that] addresses racism, sexism, classism and homophobia” and is focused on “critical thinking, community engagement and activism,” according to its website.
Its mission is to meet “the needs of a culturally and ethnically diverse population by engaging children in critical thinking and problem solving, involving children in political and social activism, encouraging creative expression,” its website states.
“Our curriculum challenges students to think critically and take action in their communities,” it adds.
“Through field trips and travel study, students engage with local organizations and real-world issues, deepening their understanding of social justice and inspiring them to make a positive impact.”
Good was killed when she hit an ICE agent with her SUV during an immigration operation in the residential neighborhood Wednesday – prompting the officer to open fire in self-defense, according to the feds.
Newly surfaced video Friday showed Good’s wife provoking the agents from outside the vehicle before yelling for her wife to “drive, baby, drive” right before Good accelerated toward the agent who ultimately fired three shots into her driver’s side window.
