Whether you’re an experienced traveller or a total novice, planning out a rail trip can be overwhelming.
The EU’s newly announced ‘one journey, one ticket’ proposal should make things a lot easier, but for now, you still have to deal with multiple operators across countries, which can quickly get confusing.
It’s a real barrier to such a sustainable way to get around – and that’s why travel company Byway has just launched a free course teaching people how to do it for themselves.
While it might seem counterintuitive for a company that specialises in booking personalised trips by land and sea for travellers, CEO Cat Jones says the company’s mission is to make no-fly travel mainstream.
“Byway exists to offer the best overland travel experience possible, backed by expert support, fair pricing and free disruption re-planning,” Jones said.
“But whether people book a package through us or book each component part themselves, we don’t want anyone missing out because no-fly travel feels too complex.
“If sharing our expertise means more people skip the airport in this year of heatwaves, then it’s the best ‘bad decision’ we’ve ever made.”
What’s included in the course
The 10-lesson email course, which includes step-by-step videos as well as write-ups, covers everything you need to know about booking a trip by rail.
It includes things like which Interrail or Eurail pass is best for you, how to find rail-friendly accommodation, and how to create a journey guide to manage any unwieldy itineraries.
Plus, it also covers what to do should your journey be disrupted, and how to get your trip back on track.
You can sign up on the Byway website.
