An influencer was fatally shot by her husband who then killed himself in a grisly murder-suicide two weeks after she accused him of being a pedophile on TikTok, according to authorities.
Sara Gilson, 43, who posted a “Netflix Documentary” video on TikTok — a trend where users pretend they are sitting down and filming a Netflix documentary about humorous to traumatizing subject matter — to speak about how her soon-to-be ex-husband, Shawn Duffey, 48, is a pedophile.
“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile,” Gilson wrote on her video.
The caption reads: “I wish I was joking #plottwist #netflix #documentary.”
Less than two weeks after she posted the video, on Thursday, July 23, Gilson and Duffey were found dead in her home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, both with apparent gunshot wounds to the head, Owasso law enforcement told the Post.
Initially, a 911 call around 11:15 p.m. was made to authorities and dispatchers heard what sounded like a woman screaming, followed quickly by what sounded to be a gunshot.
A few moments later, Gilson’s juvenile son, who lived in the home, made a second 911 call from a neighbor’s house advising that his stepfather, Duffey, had shot his mother.
Authorities arrived at the scene around 11:15 p.m., Owasso police told the Post.
On June 10, Gilson was in court to explain why she wanted an emergency protection order against Duffey, who was required to stay 100 yards away from his wife, forcing him out of the home, according to People.
Owasso Police previously guided Gilson on how to seek an Emergency Protective Order through the Tulsa County Courthouse following an incident the previous day, and noted that no reports of Duffey violating the protective order were made to them prior to the fatal shooting.
Gilson alleged in her application for the protective order that Duffey had threatened suicide “and went on the run,” according to The Oklahoman.
The same day, another protective order was issued against Duffey on behalf of a 15-year-old girl who was a member of the youth basketball team he coached alleging Duffey assaulted her.
The assault reportedly occurred on Tuesday, June 9 inside an elementary school where Duffey’s traveling competitive team was renting the court while school was out of session.
Police clarified that the team and Duffey had no official affiliation with Owasso Public Schools.
Duffey allegedly sent the minor inappropriate messages, kissed her and touched her inappropriately, and invited her to his hotel room during a tournament, offering money “to keep her quiet,” according to court documents obtained by the Oklahoman.
During the June 9 incident, another team coach personally witnessed the conduct, immediately intervened, and notified the girl’s guardian, police say. Authorities
Investigators noted that similar conduct by Duffey toward this player had occurred over an extended period across multiple states and law enforcement jurisdictions.
Duffey fled the scene that night and had evaded police contact ever since.
Because Jeremiah Shawn Duffey is a member of the Osage Indian Tribe of Oklahoma and the incident occurred in Indian Country, the report — listing the crime of Lewd Molestation of a Minor — was designated a “Major Crime” under the Federal Major Crimes Act and turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for review, which concluded Owasso Police’s jurisdiction over that sex crime investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
