NYC school worker killed, friend stabbed during unhinged attack by maniac with 13 prior busts: sources

A maniac with 13 prior busts stabbed a city schools worker to death and repeatedly slashed his buddy during an unhinged attack on a Bronx street on Wednesday, cops and sources said.

Rashaun Shettlewood, 32 — a paraprofessional for the city’s Department of Education, according to law enforcement sources — was knifed once in the chest and his 33-year-old pal stabbed repeatedly in the torso around 3:30 p.m. at Davidson and West Tremont avenues in Morris Heights, police said. 

Both were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Shettlewood — who lived about a mile from the scene — succumbed to his injuries and the older man was listed in stable condition, cops said.

The attack stemmed from a dispute, but it remained unclear Thursday what prompted the clash, law enforcement sources said.

The victims were friends but it is unclear whether their attacker knew them, according to the sources.

The alleged stabber, Jeffrey Jorge, 37, of Brooklyn, was nabbed around 6:30 a.m. when cops found him with a knife at Ocean Avenue and Parkside Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and linked him to the carnage, police said. 

Jorge was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and two counts each of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.

He has 13 previous arrests, the most recent in May 2022 for a stabbing that happened in January of that same year, police said.

That victim, a 44-year-old man, was knifed at Davidson and West Tremont avenues — the same location as Wednesday’s attack — and was hospitalized in stable condition, cops said.

Jorge’s record also includes a Dec. 8, 2018 bust for allegedly menacing someone with a knife at 174th Street and Grand Avenue — and then biting an officer while resisting arrest, authorities said. 

The disposition of those cases was not immediately known.

His arraignment in the murder case was pending Thursday evening.
