The release of NJ gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill’s full military file is being investigated by the National Archives’ watchdog after she complained it was leaked as part of a political hit-job.

Will Brown, acting inspector general for the National Archives, announced a formal inquiry into how the files for the New Jersey Democratic rep got into the hands of a key ally to her Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli.

“The illegal release of my military records — including my Social Security number — was no mistake,” Sherrill said on X earlier in the day Tuesday. “A process that typically takes more than year was thrown out after a Ciattarelli ally made one phone call to a ‘very helpful person.’”

“If you believe that’s an accident, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.”

Last week, CBS News reported that it obtained Sherrill’s military file with un-redacted details such as her Social Security number, life insurance information, home address, and more.

The National Archives had provided the files to political operative Nicholas De Gregorio via a Freedom of Information Act Request.

Upon inquiry from CBS News, the National Archives said, “The technician should NOT have released the entire record.”

News of the disclosure came around the same time as the bombshell revelations that Sherrill was not permitted to walk during her commencement at the Naval Academy due to involvement in the cheating scandal, which she publicly blamed on her refusal to rat out fellow classmates.

The Post has contacted the National Archives for comment.
