Dating dealbreakers are personal, and for this one influencer, her final straw with her former beau was his bizarre views on personal hygiene.
Débora Porto is an open book with her 2 million Instagram followers. She recently gave insight into her latest dating experience — and it was certainly a stinky one.
The 35-year-old ended things with a guy who described himself as an “urban wild man,” according to Jam Press.
And what does “urban wild man” mean exactly?
The term describes people who live a more au naturel lifestyle by avoiding normal hygiene routines, according to Porto.
“He was deodorant-free and only showered once a week,” the content creator told NeedToKnow.
Like many daters, at first, Porto ignored this red flag — and if anything, found it intriguing.
“…but eventually, it became a problem. His connection with nature was interesting, but over time, his habits started to affect our relationship,” the 35-year-old said.
While this is quite the lifestyle choice — it was one that the influencer could no longer get on board with.
“…the strong odor and lack of basic self-care became a major issue,” she revealed.
“It was really hard to be around him in closed spaces.”
The lack of deodorant and showering is one thing, but Porto also explained that even when this guy did shower, he refused to use shampoo or soap — and would go days without brushing his teeth “because he believed the body self-regulates.”
“I didn’t feel comfortable with the smell, the constant sweat. We naturally grew distant. The desire just faded,” said the 35-year-old.
Porto isn’t the only one who ended things over a person being stinky.
A guy shared on Reddit that he had no choice but to break up with his girlfriend over her shower-hating ways.
“I’ve tried so long to give hints to get her to shower more, like: ‘Hey, do you want to take a shower together?’ But she can’t take the hint,” the boyfriend explained online.
Eventually, the couple split up because supposedly, “She refused to accept she was ‘disgusting’ by not showering, and did not see anything wrong.”
Many of the commenters understood where this fed-up boyfriend was coming from — but also expressed concern for his ex.
“I can understand her feeling sensitive about this, but you did approach it in the most polite and loving way that you could and even offered showering together as a very sweet way to fix the problem. Your relationship is over because she is being gross. Not because you hurt her,” one person wrote.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she has some sort of phobia or OCD about the shower if she’s showering so infrequently, ignoring hints, and flipping out over requests,” read another comment.
