A cruel Florida mom allegedly chained her 13-year-old daughter to a fence in the scorching heat because she “wanted a break” from parenting, according to police.
Yashira Marie Maldonado, 34, allegedly wrapped a metal chain around the teen’s waist outside her great-grandmother’s home Saturday in Miami suburb Hialeah — then went home to watch TV in bed, according to NBC Miami.
The disturbing punishment left the girl restrained without food, water or cover from the intense sun, according to a police report cited by the station.
Before driving away, Maldonado gave her daughter a backpack of diapers, wipes and medication then put her phone on silent, according to cops.
Temperatures reached a high of 91 degrees with a real feel of 110 degrees in the area Saturday.
The girl’s unidentified great-grandmother said she was shocked to find the teen chained up, and tried to release her but couldn’t, according to the report.
Maldonado allegedly told detectives “she knows what she did looks bad and is wrong” but said she was overwhelmed with caring for the teen and “wanted a break,” according to the report.
The girl, who was ultimately chained up for an hour, was uninjured, according to WPLG 10.
Maldonado was charged with with child neglect and child abuse.
She was released from jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
