CBS is expanding the Blue Bloods universe with its Boston Blue spinoff — but who makes up the cast?

Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank and his father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), were central to the show alongside Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

After Blue Bloods ended in December 2024, CBS confirmed it wasn’t completely the end by picking up a show centered around Wahlberg’s character.

“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue!” Wahlberg wrote via Instagram in March 2025. “The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall! 💙❤️🫡🙏🏼.”

While several Blue Bloods alums expressed interest in making appearances, it remains to be seen who will actually join Boston Blue. Tom Selleck discussed joining another project in the Blue Bloods universe, telling Parade in December 2024, “I’m open to suggestions, because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked. I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere.”

Vanessa Ray, meanwhile, teased to TV Insider in October 2024, “I would do anything with these people. So, yes, of course. I don’t know what world it would make sense for Eddie to be in a spinoff at all. But if they need to put me in a wig and dye my eyebrows and I’ll play a different character just so I get to hang out with all of them more, then I’ll do it.”

CBS, however, has been busy building out the cast with several newcomers. Keep scrolling to meet the Boston Blue cast — and get a breakdown of who they play:

Donnie Wahlberg

After originating the role of Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods, Wahlberg returns to play the former NYPD officer as he “takes on a position” with the Boston P.D. “Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” read the official logline.

Sonequa Martin-Green

Speaking of Lena, Martin-Green will play Wahlberg’s onscreen partner.

“We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long,” she said in a statement after joining the show in May 2025. “And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time.”

Ernie Hudson

Hudson is set to portray Lena’s grandfather, Reverend Peters, who is “a renowned pastor of an historic Baptist church in Boston.” According to the official character description, the Peters-Silver family patriarch is “an open-minded, welcoming man that is comfortable in all traditions, he is happy to preside at his church’s traditional Sunday Baptist service.” Reverend Peters is the father of Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver and grandfather of Lena, Superintendent Ashley Silver and rookie patrol cop Isaac Silver.

Maggie Lawson

Lawson has been cast as Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver, who is described as “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”

Gloria Reuben

Gloria Reuben has been tapped to play series regular Mae Silver, who serves as Boston’s District Attorney. Mae is the daughter of Hudson’s character, Reverend Peters. She is “the matriarch of a blended family of law enforcement professionals” and the mother of Martin-Green’s character, Lena. She is also the stepmother of Lawson’s character, Sarah. Mae has a son named Jonah who is a rookie cop.

Mae is someone who went through a personal tragedy, as she is a “widow of a judge who was murdered on the courthouse steps.” Still, she “endeavors to put family ahead of work whenever possible.”

Her character is “accustomed to making decisions and standing by them,” according to Deadline.

Fans may recognize Reuben from her roles in ER, Lincoln and Elsbeth. She also previously appeared on two episodes of Blue Bloods as recurring character Rachel Weber in 2021.

Marcus Scribner

Scribner was cast as a series regular in the role of Jonah Silver. The official description labeled Jonah as “the youngest member of the Silver family and is in law enforcement like his mother and sisters — each of whom are formidable in their own ways.”

The synopsis continued: “Always the cool kid growing up, Jonah carries himself with confidence and swagger in all situations, so he’s naturally frustrated at being a rookie cop on the sidelines of the city’s biggest investigations.”
