Meet NYC’s budget psychics, where woo-woo New Yorkers are going for a glimpse into the future — on the cheap

Meet NYC’s budget psychics, where woo-woo New Yorkers are going for a glimpse into the future — on the cheap

Nothing’s cheap in NYC anymore — and certainly not enlightenment.

The days of accessible, affordable tarot sessions or palm readings — teased by neon signs in windows everywhere from Times Square to the East Village and beyond — are largely behind us. Finding out if you’re about to get a promotion at work, or if love is in the stars? That’ll cost you a lot more than $25.

Add a zero and you get $250, which is the lower end of what NYC’s most sought-after psychics are charging nowadays — sometimes going as high as $500 for an hour. That’s what celebs like Betsey Johnson and Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander pay elite mystic Frank Andrews — a number that leaves most Big Apple’s spiritually inclined seekers gasping for heavenly relief.

Increasingly, cosmic-minded common folk are finding just that — at a string of new budget clairvoyants, who go far beyond a shady supernatural quickie in someone’s walk-up apartment.

From $40 TikTok-viral aura readings in Chinatown to $50 lip-print readings in Bushwick, savvy New Yorkers are finding clever ways to get guidance — without selling a kidney. Turkish coffee cups in the Village are also now revealing fates for just $59, proving that even in pricey Gotham, you can pay less and still get a peek at your future.

McKenna Rine, 27, of Hell’s Kitchen, is all about tarot, Reiki, and virtually every witchy trend her young heart can handle.

But the mystical model, influencer and astrology fan says gentrification has made Brooklyn and parts of Manhattan a “spiritual surge fee” zone, with even basic psychic readings (whether about astrology, palmistry, mediumship, etc) skyrocketing in price.

She’s witnessed the “obscene pricing” for “all kinds” of psychics in Gotham.

“I think anyone honing in on their spirituality or looking for answers within the supernatural here in NYC these days is aware of these insane price spikes with services,” she told The Post.

Rine is also wary of the boom in DIY experts, warning that overpriced, iffy advice is everywhere — so finding a legit, affordable reader takes effort.

“There are a lot of people who have watched a few videos on a subject and call themselves experts and give people unreliable spiritual answers via aura readings, tarot and more that come with a massive price tag,” she warned.

So, with so many mystics and magic tricks in this urban jungle, how do you know who’s for real?

Acclaimed New York psychic Nikenya Hall (popular from her appearance in the A24 doc “Look Into My Eyes”) told The Post: “A warm referral is always the best place to start.”

She recommends asking about a practitioner’s training — who they apprenticed with and how they developed their skills — and checking whether others in the community vouch for them.

“People pay for what they believe is important,” Hall notes, but pricing doesn’t always equal quality. “Paying $2,222 for an hour with an inexperienced, self-taught practitioner raises ethical concerns for me,” she said.

As Hall and Rine note, there are plenty of hidden gems where savvy New Yorkers can snag spiritual guidance for under $100 — and walk away surprised by what they learn.

Your aura can glow in $40 color-soaked photos without draining your wallet

One place that many guidance-seeking New Yorkers have likely heard of or passed by is Magic Jewelry at 238 Canal St.

Gothamites routinely line up when the shop opens at 11:30 a.m. to see their auras glow in color-soaked photos.

Magic Jewelry’s mystics promise insight, balance, and a little extra positive energy by reading your five elements and energy field.

The store, which also has a second location in Flushing, even claims to be the first in the U.S. to mix Feng Shui with crystal magic (since 1995) — ancient wisdom meets modern social media mania.

“I loved the experience,” one content creator, Kristiana del Rosario, gushed online after her LES session, holding her aura photo in hand and praising the affordability.

“I felt like I was in therapy for a hot second because [the Magic Jewelry employee] really clocked me.”

Del Rosario said the staff instantly picked up on her months of self-doubt and mental struggles before her appointment — and spotted a strong personality shining through her aura.

She said it was exactly the metaphysical support she needed to hear… and all for $40.

Sip your Turkish coffee, flip the cup, and watch your future unfold for just $59

A few blocks away in the East Village, you’ll find Dr. Honeybrew (Uluç Ülgen), a theatrical Turkish coffee fortune teller whose secret East Village address is only revealed when you book a session.

Since 2018, he’s been reading futures from coffee grounds in his “Turkish Coffee Room,” blending ancient traditions with a lively, show-stopping performance that’s drawn celebrities and media buzz.

After you sip your coffee, he flips the cup and interprets the patterns left in the grounds — offering insights into love, life, and everything in between.

The cheapest reading is just $59, and social media fans can’t get enough of his insights and inexpensiveness.

“He nearly moved me to tears when he saw my mother in heaven – and the coffee grinds – watching over me always,”  Alexandra Klausner, a former reporter for The Post, recalled after receiving an intricate reading from him.

“The readings may sound personal, and they are, but since everyone’s so-called secrets are on the table, people experience the emotional ups and downs of each person’s fortune.”

Kiss the paper, let a clairvoyant read your lips, and discover your secrets for only $50

Take the L a few stops east and you’ll hit Bushwick’s Cocktail Magique at 17 Wyckoff Ave., dishing out a quirky, budget-friendly way to get your otherworldly fix.

The burlesque spot lets New Yorkers try a “French Kiss Lipstick Reading,” where a resident clairvoyant decodes your lips.

Guests swipe on a bold red lipstick, plant a kiss on a cocktail napkin, and wait for “intimate insights from a divination diva,” as per the venue’s website.

Known as lipsology, the art of reading lipstick prints works like palmistry for your pout — experts analyze shape, lines, and color intensity to reveal personality, emotions, energy levels, and even life path.
