Marc Menchaca is holding out hope for a Dutton Ranch cameo from wife Lena Headey.
“I won’t say it hadn’t been discussed,” Menchaca, 50, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday May 12, during the Paramount+ show’s New York City premiere. “Not between me and the show, the producers, but between me and someone that I love.”
Menchaca wed the Game of Thrones alum in 2022, two years after they started dating.
The actor added that he would “welcome” the opportunity to have Headey, 52, on set — maybe as a love interest for his character.
While not much is known about Menchaca’s role, the newcomer in the Yellowstone universe will be playing the part of Zachariah, newly released from jail and looking to rebuild his life. Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip’s (Cole Hauser) Dutton Ranch seems to be the perfect place for him to turn himself into a cowboy.
The show is set after the events of Yellowstone, which came to an end in December 2024, and shows fan-favorite couple Beth and Rip following their relocation from Montana to Texas.
Menchaca told Us on Tuesday that he previously auditioned for several Taylor Sheridan shows — including Tulsa King and Landman — but “never” got the job. Things changed when Dutton Ranch came around. (Menchaca also noted that Landman, which also takes place in Texas, would allow for an epic Dutton Ranch crossover.)
“I try to forget what I audition for after I do it,” the actor quipped. “Otherwise, it’s just too depressing to stay in this career.”
While Menchaca couldn’t say much about what’s to come, he did tell Us during the Dutton Ranch press junket on Monday, May 11, that preparing for his role was no joke.
“I did cowboy camp,” he said. “The best cowboys I’ve ever worked with.”
Menchaca continued, “We started out just riding, and we’d do different exercises. We ended up driving cattle from pasture to pasture and to the pens. We learned how to cut cattle out.”
He said the actors “did it all” with the real-life cowboys before they started filming.
“They made it fun, and they made us a lot better,” Menchaca continued. “A lot better, or learn how to do it. Depending on where you were when you came in.”
He added, “I loved it. If they told me I had to do it for two months, 12 months, I don’t care how long. I would do it every day.
Dutton Ranch premieres on Paramount+ Friday, May 15.
