A Michigan man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he trapped and shot his ex-girlfriend two times in front of their young daughter.
Gregory Keyier-Deniro Davis was convicted by a jury in Oakland County on April 10 on all eight charges he was facing, which included one count each of premeditated murder in the first degree, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm and felonious assault, as well as four counts of felony firearm as a second offense for the murder of Annie Salem Namou Somo.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwame Rowe sentenced Davis, 46, to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Monday, May 11, for the killing of Namou, 40, according to Law & Crime. Davis was also sentenced to multiple additional prison terms for the lesser offenses.
Namou died on May 20, 2023, when she was arriving to work at the Legend Motors car dealership in Ferndale. She brought her then-10-year-old daughter, whom she shared with Davis, to work with her on the day of her death.
Davis followed Namou to her work parking lot around 8:40 a.m. and used his vehicle to pin her car so that she could not get away. Namou managed to get out of her car and tried to flee, but Davis stopped her by shooting a 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun at her as she ran.
He made sure that Namou was dead when he then approached her and shot her a second time.
After he shot Namou, Davis fired multiple shots at onlookers in the parking lot. It’s not currently clear how many people were injured during the rampage.
Davis eventually surrendered to police just hours after the shooting occurred.
During the trial, prosecutors told the jury that the couple’s daughter watched her father kill her mother from the passenger seat of Namou’s vehicle, according to New Media Detroit.
After his sentence was revealed, one of Namou’s family members told the outlet that the victim was “an incredible woman and mother.”
Meanwhile, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald issued a statement about the case after Davis had been found guilty of the charges.
“I thank the jury for delivering justice for Annie Namou and her loved ones,” McDonald said in April, according to New Media Detroit. “Children and women, like Annie, are too often endangered by intimate partners, and it is unacceptable. We will never forget her and never stop fighting for victims of intimate partner violence.”
