A popular variety of organic fruit puree pouches has been recalled over the potential risk of soft plastic contamination.
On Tuesday, a notice from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reveals that PT Organics Limited has voluntarily recalled select lots of its Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4 oz. (113 g) pouches due to an “internal packaging defect.”
On its website, the Oregon-based purveyor shared that “the defect has the potential to result in a thin, soft strand of the inner pouch material becoming detached, and leaving the pouch when squeezed.”
According to the company, the issue is associated with the pouch packaging itself rather than the fruit purée.
The recalled pouches were sold nationwide between 03/06/2026 and 07/13/2026 at Kroger, Meijer, and Target stores.
Recalled packages have a barcode of 8 15367 01078 0 and a lane number of 4 printed on the rear right-hand side seam.
The affected pouches will show a best-before date of 01/19/2027, 01/20/2027, 03/17/2027, 03/18/2027, 05/14/2027 or 05/15/2027.
No other Pumpkin Tree branded products are affected.
The company underscored that they are working to remove affected pouches from the marketplace and sharing information with consumers so they can identify compromised pouches.
“Consumers or caregivers who have recalled product in their possession should dispose of it or return the product to the place of purchase,” the company said. “It should not be eaten or fed to another person.”
No injuries have been reported; however, the company underscored the importance of identifying any affected pouches and disposing of them or returning them to the place of purchase.
The recall was implemented last week after PT Organics Limited’s packaging supplier recalled a production run of defective pouches.
“Our packaging supplier has conducted a thorough internal investigation and determined that the problem only affected one production run, on one line, and that the fault was an intermittent fault in pouches made on one of 4 lanes,” PT Organics shared on its website.
PT also praised their supplier’s intervention.
“This is the first of its type in 20 years serving our customers, and we applaud them for acting quickly to notify us once they had identified a problem and recalling the affected production lot,” the statement said.
PT Organics pledged to continue providing up-to-date information to consumers, retailers, and regulators as they “work to understand what went wrong and make sure it cannot happen again.”

Last year, an organic baby formula sold at Target was voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer after three infants who consumed the product were infected with a deadly bacterium.
According to the FDA, the makers of Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula are recalling all lots of the product out of an “abundance of caution” after three infants were hospitalized in California, Washington, and Pennsylvania with infant botulism.
