Kelly Osbourne is opening up about her grief journey nearly one year after dad and rock legend Ozzy Osbourne’s death.

“I don’t just mourn the father I lost. I mourn the soul I was before death taught my heart its own name,” Kelly 41, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, July 21, in a post she captioned, “What I’ve come to know about grief in the last year.”

“There is a grief that steals more than the person you love. It quietly takes the light from your laughter, the innocence from your hope and the stranger you become is someone you’ll spend a lifetime trying to recognize,” she continued. “People think grief is missing someone who is gone, but the deepest sorrow is waking each day longing for the version of yourself who died with them.”

The Black Sabbath frontman died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76 following a public battle with Parkinson’s disease.

In her heartbreaking post, Kelly revealed that grief manifests itself in “a language no one truly speaks until life forces it upon them.”

“It cannot be explained, borrowed or imagined,” she continued. “You only understand its endless ache when you’ve stood in the unbearable silence, carrying a love that has nowhere left to go.”

Kelly, who is Ozzy and wife Sharon Osbourne’s middle child, confessed, “I miss who I was before my daddy died. Before my heart became a home for absence. Before every memory became both a blessing and a wound.”

The TV personality shared that one year after the rock icon’s death, she is mourning the parts inside her that she can no longer find.

“Some losses don’t simply break you. They divide your life into two people,” Kelly noted. “The one you were before and the one left behind.”

Kelly mused that “perhaps that is grief’s cruelest truth.”

She concluded, “Not that death takes the ones we love but that it leaves us living as ghosts of the people we used to be.”

Kelly added the caption, “#LoveIsEternal #OzzyForever 💔,” paying tribute to her late father.

Kelly’s openness about her grief comes ahead of the one-year anniversary of Ozzy’s death.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the Osbourne family told Us in a statement in July 2025. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Ozzy is survived by his wife, Sharon, 73, and their children, Aimee, 42, Jack, 40, and Kelly, and several grandchildren. The Grammy winner was also the father of Elliot, Louis and Jessica from his first marriage to Thelma Riley.

The Osbournes previously announced that on the actual anniversary of Ozzy’s death — Wednesday, July 22 — he will be honored in his home town of Birmingham with the first “Ozzy Day” celebration.

“The city-wide celebration will feature a free programme of live music, public art, special performances, and fan tributes, transforming locations across Birmingham into a celebration of Ozzy Osbourne’s remarkable legacy and lifelong connection to his hometown,” This Day in Metal confirmed in a joint post with Sharon earlier this month.
