Dawson’s Creek alums Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes are channeling their inner Pacey and Joey more than two decades after the show’s finale.
Jackson, 47, and Holmes, 46, were all smiles while reuniting on the set of her new untitled movie in New York City on Monday, July 21. Jackson rocked a green button-up jacket with a pair of jeans and a messenger bag thrown around his shoulders, while Holmes rocked a pink flannel and a pair of trousers.
The pair were seen walking side by side at moments, while at other times Jackson grinned as Holmes talked animatedly with her hands.
Deadline broke the news on Monday that Holmes is set to write, direct and star in new feature film trilogy Happy Hours, which will also star Jackson. The outlet reported that other cast members include Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., and Nathan Darrow.
Happy Hours centers around Jackson and Holmes’ characters “navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love, despite life’s inevitable obstacles.” The drama delves into young lovers reconnecting as adults.
Jackson and Holmes met on the set of Dawson’s Creek, which aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2003. The coming-of-age teen series followed the lives of pals Pacey (Jackson), Joey (Holmes), Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Jen (Michelle Williams).
While Jackson and Holmes’ characters were romantically involved on the show — and even ended up together in the end — the pair also pursued a relationship off camera during the first season.
“I’m just going to say that I met somebody last year,” Holmes told Rolling Stone in 1998 when asked about the rumored romance. “I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always.”
While Holmes didn’t use Jackson’s name in the interview, she confirmed that the relationship had run its course. “I feel so fortunate because he’s now one of my best friends,” she added. “He’s been in the business so long, and he’s really helped me. I respect him as a friend and as a professional.”
While the cast didn’t speak for years after Dawson’s Creek, they have since maintained a tight bond. In April, Jackson gushed over his friendship with Holmes while shedding light on the cast’s group chat.
“Busy [Philipps] and Michelle are very, very close and Katie and I are very close,” Jackson said on an episode of the “Dinner’s on Me With Jesse Tyler Ferguson” podcast at the time. “It’s not a daily call.”
He continued, “Sometimes it’s not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call. But when you’re together, A) there’s always that, like, I know you know. And B), these moments, like, these major moments in life are, like, other than your husband, there’s probably no other people in your life that you are that forged to ‘cause you had to go through good and bad, and happy and ‘f*** you,’ and don’t talk to me and I love you. … But life happens.”
