Ed Kelce is mourning the death of his longtime partner, Maureen Maguire. She was 74.
Travis and Jason Kelce’s father, Ed, shared a link to an obituary for Maguire via his Facebook account on Saturday, August 2.
“Maureen Maguire, born November 21, 1950, in the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones,” the tribute read. “Though she began her life in New York City, Maureen spent the majority of her years in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where she built a warm and vibrant home filled with love, laughter, and family traditions.”
In addition to Ed, Maguire is survived by her three children from a previous marriage, her six grandchildren and her siblings. (A cause of death has not been publicly shared at the time of publication.)
“Maureen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved the beach — especially the shore — and had a deep affection for dogs. In recent years, she spent treasured time in Cape May with her family, enjoying peaceful days by the ocean,” her obituary continued. “She also grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog, Butch.”
The obituary noted that Maguire and Ed often traveled together to attend “football games and concerts,” likely in support of Ed’s sons. (Travis is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, while Jason played 14 seasons as a center for the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring in 2024.)
“[Ed and Maureen] embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest,” the statement added. “She had a rare gift for making friends with strangers and making everyone around her feel special, seen and welcomed. Her presence had a way of turning ordinary moments into something memorable. Her kindness, wit and gentle strength left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.”
Ed and Maguire’s circle expanded in 2023 when Travis, 35, started dating pop star Taylor Swift.
“I met Taylor at Travis’ house. When Travis has a lot of friends coming into town to the game, everyone meets at his house, although he’s not there because he’s sequestered with the team,” Ed said during a January 2024 appearance on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan radio show. “Everyone meets at the house, and they have a shuttle that comes [to] pick everyone up and take them to the game. At any given home game, you could end up with 20 people there.”
He added, “Taylor walks in with a security guy, and I look at her, and I say [to my girlfriend], ‘Oh my God, I know this kid, but I don’t know what her name is. Jeez, you know, like a real idiot.’”
Ed further recalled that Maguire succinctly replied, “You don’t know her? This is Taylor Swift, you idiot.”
While Ed — who shares his sons with ex-wife Donna Kelce — was unaware of Swift’s massive fame, he was impressed by her down-to-earth demeanor.
Ed later revealed to The Los Angeles Times in February 2024 that he thought Swift, 35, was a “smart, grounded and a shrewd businesswoman,” which inspired him to go back and watch her commencement address to New York University’s class of 2022.
“Listening to that, you get a much better sense of who this young woman is, as opposed to the social media blurbs and the gossip,” Ed explained to The Times. “That’s all celebrity stuff. This is more the real Taylor.”
