Jack Osbourne spoke about his relationship with sister Aimee Osbourne before she made a rare public appearance at Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral.
“We’re not close at all,” Jack, 39, said during an appearance on the “Disrespectfully” podcast last month. “We don’t have a great relationship. She’ll be the first to tell you that. So, it’s no secret.”
Aimee, 41, never appeared alongside her family on The Osbournes reality show. According to Jack, she wanted to be an “obscure mysterious moody” musician.
“She deemed doing a show on MTV as low hanging fruit and she was like, ‘I’m not going to be seen riding coattails.’ That’s how she perceived it,” Jack explained. “Once the show was hugely successful, I think she was like, ‘I can’t now, come on, because I don’t want to be seen even more as jumping on the bandwagon.’ So, she just dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.”
Jack said that he “never” asked his older sister whether she regretted not being on the family’s reality show. (The Osbournes ran for four seasons on MTV from 2002 to 2005.)
“There must be a level of like, ‘My life probably would have been different than what it is if I’d have done that.’ I don’t know. I mean, I would feel like I would have regretted it,” Jack said, adding that he’s “100 percent” glad he was featured on the reality show.
“It was such an interesting thing to be a part of, especially [with] how much media has changed,” he continued. “There is just not that level of [or] kind of excitement around TV anymore like there was back then. When you had a hit TV show in the early 2000s, it was [a] game changer.”
When Aimee would appear in the background of the show, her face was blurred out. (Aimee discussed her decision to separate from the show in a 2020 interview.)
Aimee is the eldest daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. The couple married in 1982 and also shared daughter Kelly Osbourne, as well as son Jack. (Ozzy had three other kids from his first marriage.)
Ozzy died at age 76 on July 22 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the family shared in a statement to Us Weekly. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Nearly one week after his death, the family paid tribute to the late Black Sabbath singer in Birmingham, England. They were surrounded by fans who also came to pay their respects during Ozzy’s funeral procession. Photos from the memorial showed an emotional Sharon, 72, holding hands with both of her daughters, Kelly and Aimee.
Multiple reports later revealed that Ozzy was laid to rest on the grounds of his family estate in England.
