Home Improvement alum Zachery Ty Bryan has been sentenced to nearly two years in jail in Oregon after violating his probation.

Local ABC affiliate KEZI reported on Friday, March 20, that Bryan, 44, was sentenced to 19 months behind bars after pleading guilty to a probation violation.

According to the outlet, the former child star appeared in court virtually as he is currently in jail in California after receiving a separate 16-month sentence for a DUI back in 2024. (Last month Bryan was re-arraigned in California after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and driving with a BAC of 0.15 percent or higher, which is nearly double the legal limit.)

“The sentence was excessive. It was ridiculous. Zachary has experienced a lot of trauma. He has an alcohol problem,” Bryan’s lawyer said in a statement to TMZ on Friday. “Putting him in jail or prison is not going to help the situation. Poor use of resources. I’m very disappointed in the judge. Zachary attended the hearing remotely. He apologized to the court, he said he wants to be the best father he can be, acknowledged he needs help with his alcohol problem and the judge slapped him with this sentence.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Bryan for comment.

Bryan’s recent sentencing stems from his November 2025 arrest in Eugene, Oregon. Police responded to a reckless endangerment call and arrested Bryan and his partner Johnnie Faye Cartwright.

“On November 29th at about 12:30 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of reckless [endangerment] in the area of Big Fall Creek Road milepost 5, a popular camping area northeast of Lowell,” read a statement from the Lane County police department. “Deputies learned Zachery Ty Bryan of Eugene was in a pickup truck with Johnnie Faye Cartwright of Eugene, and their three small children. They were driving together in the area.”

Cartwright was charged with DUI, three counts of reckless endangerment and attempted first-degree assault. Bryan was booked on a probation violation tied to a previous domestic violence conviction in 2023. As part of the conviction, Bryan was placed on three-year probation, which was set to expire in October 2026. Bryan’s probation prohibited him from contact with the victim, leaving the area without permission, consuming alcohol or committing new crimes.

Authorities claimed Bryan violated the terms of his probation because he wasn’t supposed to be in contact with Cartwright. He subsequently pleaded guilty to the probation violation.

Bryan is also facing legal trouble in Oklahoma. KEZI reported that Bryan has a pending DUI charge. Authorities plan to extradite him to Oklahoma following his release in California.
