Hailey Bieber Recalls Hemorrhaging After Giving Birth to Son Jack: ‘I Couldn’t Stop Bleeding’

More than one year after welcoming son Jack to the world, Hailey Bieber is reflecting on her frightening childbirth experience.

“So, I pushed the baby out [in] 44 minutes. I was like, ‘I did it, I got him out.’ And then I couldn’t stop bleeding,” Bieber, 29, said during the Tuesday, March 3, episode of the “She MD” podcast with hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thais Aliabadi, who delivered Bieber’s son. “I wouldn’t have expected that.”

Hailey, who welcomed Jack in August 2024 with husband Justin Bieber, added that she had heard stories of women experiencing postpartum hemorrhage, but she “never thought” it would happen to her.

“Anything can go sideways when you’re having a baby. It’s an extremely crazy experience,” she explained. “But I was bleeding, and I trust Dr. Aliabadi with my life … I knew she would never let anything get bad for me.”

Hailey recalled being “out of it” during the hemorrhage, so she didn’t know what was going on. She eventually “started to sense the panic in the room,” but her medical team reassured her that she would be OK.

Dr. Aliabadi then explained that postpartum hemorrhage affects 2 to 4 percent of vaginal births. The most common cause is when the uterine muscles fail to contract after delivery, which is what happened to Hailey. The OB-GYN said Hailey lost under one liter of blood, which is the typical baseline for a postpartum hemorrhage.

“I was right on the edge,” Hailey said of the blood loss.

Hailey and her doctor reiterated that the incident occurred within “seconds.”

Dr. Aliabadi ultimately ended up using a Jada device, which contracts the uterus muscles, to treat the hemorrhage.

“They wouldn’t let me leave [after the bleed],” Hailey recalled, with Dr. Aliabadi noting that patients must stay hospitalized for a certain amount of time after a hemorrhage to ensure they will not experience any additional complications.

Elsewhere on the podcast, Hailey opened up about learning that she had a moderate uterine septum, a rare congenital condition where a thin wall of tissue partially divides the uterus. A septum can increase the risk of a miscarriage and preterm birth. Though Hailey was not pregnant or trying to conceive at the time, she said it was “important for [her] to understand [her] anatomy before having kids,” adding that ”you just want to know what you’re working with.”

When Hailey unexpectedly became pregnant, her medical team closely monitored her septum. Thankfully, her uterus stretched, allowing the pregnancy to proceed safely.

“The baby kept growing, my body did what it needed to do, and luckily, everything worked out,” she added.

Hailey and Justin, 32 — who tied the knot in 2018 — announced the birth of their son via Instagram in August 2024.

“WELCOME HOME,” Justin wrote, revealing that the baby’s full name is Jack Blues Bieber.

One year later, Hailey took to Instagram to celebrate Jack’s first birthday.

“1 year of you my beautiful boy,” the Rhode founder captioned her social media tribute. “Happy 1st Birthday Jack Blues, you are joy personified🩵.”

Hailey later opened up about motherhood in a November 2025 interview with GQ.

“A typical day at home for me is I get up with my son, hit a workout as much as I can,” she said at the time. “I’ve become a lot more of a homebody than I used to be. And I think when you have a child, that happens, at least it did for me. It definitely made me have so much less FOMO. I just love to spend time with my son. He’s growing so fast and it’s gone by so fast, and it starts to become more and more real how much you want to soak up that time.”
