Frantic warning as ridiculous TikTok trend plagues LA-area homes

Just when you thought the internet had finally run out of terrible ideas, TikTok appears to have delivered another one.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is warning residents about the so-called “Door Kick Challenge,” a social media trend that encourages teens to run up to homes, kick or attempt to kick in the front door, then sprint away while recording the whole thing for online clout.

Authorities say the prank has officially made its way to the Santa Clarita Valley, prompting deputies to alert the community and urge parents to have a serious conversation with their children before a few seconds of viral fame turns into felony charges.

In a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Station said it has recently received reports of the challenge happening locally. Officials are asking residents to make sure their doors are locked and that doorbell cameras are functioning properly. 

Deputies stressed that what some teens may view as a harmless social media stunt is anything but. According to the Sheriff’s Station, kicking someone’s front door can result in felony vandalism charges and creates an extremely dangerous situation.

“The person behind the door has no way of knowing whether someone is trying to break into their home,” the department wrote.

“And the person kicking the door never knows what may be waiting on the other side.”

The agency cautioned that a moment of online attention simply isn’t worth risking a criminal record, serious injury or something even worse.

The warning quickly sparked discussion online, with several community members saying they’ve either experienced the trend firsthand or fear where it could lead.

“This happened to me yesterday! I didn’t realize they were kicking my door but it was a boom so that makes sense,” one Facebook user commented on the post.

Another pointed out that pranks involving strangers’ homes aren’t what they used to be.

“People are way more wary, suspicious and protective these days. Even ding dong ditch isn’t the harmless prank it used to be. Door kick ditch could end up horribly for these troublemakers,” the commenter wrote.

While social media challenges often come and go, law enforcement says this one carries real consequences. What looks like a funny video online can easily be mistaken for an attempted home invasion by the people inside the house.

And in a time when many homeowners are on high alert, deputies say that’s a gamble no viral trend is worth taking.
