A Florida boater was sentenced to life in prison for killing his new drinking buddy in a drunken fight that began on his sailboat before spilling out onto the dock and tossing his body into the water.

Kamal Padlowski was handed the lifetime sentence on Monday in Hillsborough County Court in Tampa, Fla, for the 2024 Memorial Day Weekend murder of 47-year-old Melvin Jimenez.

Jimenez died after he was shoved during their scuffle, which caused him to fall backwards and smack his head on the fiberglass dock before Padlowski dumped him in the water at the Little Harbor Marina in Ruskin, Fla., on May 25, 2024.

Padlowski, 52, who was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder in July, will serve his life sentence without the possibility of parole in the Florida State Prison system.

Padlowski and Jimenez had met earlier in the day at the tiki-themed Sunset Bar and Grill near the marina before Jimenez was invited back to the boat.

The pair continued drinking on the vessel with Padlowski’s fiancée before the daytime brawl broke out.

The entire fracas was caught on camera, with Padlowski being seen punching Jimenez before grabbing his throat.

The footage then captured Padlowski pushing Jimenez onto the dock, then dragging his motionless victim by the ankles and throwing him off the dock into the water.

Instead of helping Jimenez out of the water, Padlowski returned to the side of his boat and armed himself with two kitchen knives until police arrived.

“I thought he was still alive and swimming somewhere, either to get out or to come back and reengage,” Padlowski said during his trial, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Padlowski claimed self-defense in Jimenez’s death, saying his guest had become aggressive and started acting like he owned the boat.

Jimenez’s blood alcohol level was measured at .26, over three times the legal limit. Padlowski’s levels were not revealed, but he claimed to have had “two hard iced teas and maybe a shot or two of vodka.”

The convicted murderer claimed during the trial that Jimenez had threatened to kill him and rape his fiancée as the altercation grew violent.

Prosecutors argued there was no self-defense because Padlowski wasn’t facing an imminent threat, the outlet reported.

During sentencing, Judge Michelle Sisco deplored Padlowski’s actions during the entire brawl, saying there was no emotion from the man before sentencing him.

“From the moment I first saw the video, I just couldn’t even believe it was real, what I was watching,” Sisco said Monday. “I couldn’t believe there’d be such a lack of sympathy for another human being.”

Padlowski’s attorney revealed his intention to appeal the verdict following the sentencing, saying there’s an argument to contend Jimenez died instantly from the fall and not from being dumped into the water.

“We accept the jury’s verdict, we accept the process, but there are occasions — which is why we have appellate courts — when those rulings are not necessarily correct based on how they’re presented or based on the evidence,” Alex Stavrou told the Tampa Bay Times.

Stavrou pointed to Sisco’s comments during the sentencing, where she said Padlowski would have only been found guilty of manslaughter if Jimenez died from the fall.

Jimenez’s stepdaughter read an emotional impact statement in court during the sentencing Monday.

“Mel was my dad, because he showed up for me every day,” Kim Springer cried. “He chose us and we chose him. He became the first man I ever trusted completely. He became my safe space, my protector and the person who taught me that not everyone would hurt me.”
