Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid is coming to life on the big screen with a pretty star-studded cast.
It was announced in July 2022 that the thriller novel — which has since expanded to include two sequels — would be turned into a movie. More than two years later, Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried signed on to star and produce in October 2024. Paul Feig, known for A Simple Favor, was also named as the movie’s director.
“I can’t even express how excited I am to announce that #TheHousemaidMovie is coming soon!!!” McFadden captioned an Instagram post at the time. “@Lionsgate has come up with the absolute perfect cast and director, and I am just so grateful! I mean, Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Paul Feig … mind blown!!! I’m so honored and thankful to all my readers who helped make this dream come true!!!!!”
Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Adam Fogelson, also released a statement about the film at the time.
“I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate,” he said. “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”

What Is ‘The Housemaid’ Movie About?
Similar to the book, The Housemaid is set to be about a struggling woman named Millie who gets a job as the housemaid for wealthy couple Nina and Andrew. “She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own,” Deadline’s official logline reads.
Who Is Starring in ‘The Housemaid’ Movie?
Sweeney is set to star as Millie, the titular housemaid. Seyfried will play Nina with Brandon Sklenar taking on the role of her husband, Andrew. Michele Morrone has been cast as Enzo, the mysterious italian landscaper.

Morrone was, in part, a fan cast, with many readers hoping that he would take on the role prior to his official casting announcement.
Has ‘The Housemaid’ Movie Started Filming?
The movie started filming in January 2025. Photos of Sweeney on set in in Montclair, New Jersey have since been released. Production on the film officially wrapped in March 2025.
