The driver seen racing down a sidewalk in chase of a child on a dirt bike then tried to break into a neighbor’s home — just to fall on her face because she was so drunk, according to the neighbor.
US Army veteran Wendy Clemente, 56, is facing DUI and attempted assault charges over a viral video showing a silver Ford Focus driving down a sidewalk after the kid on a bike in Cheney, Washington.
Clemente was also hit with criminal trespass charges for allegedly trying to break into a nearby home immediately after the now-viral car chase.
“She was smashing the front door, and she stumbled off because she looked so drunk,’ homeowner Lloyd Gaines, 48, told the Daily Mail of the attempted break-in he was alerted to by his Ring doorbell camera..
“She fell off my porch and faceplanted.”
Clemente eventually managed to get into his home and “rustle through” his belongings, before she “tossed stuff around” and went through his wife’s jewelry, said Gaines, who was not at home at the time.
Gaines called 911 and returned to his house, where he found an apparently intoxicated Clemente in his front yard.
“She was stumbling around,” Gaines said, adding that she was “bouncing off trees” and seemed out of control.
The drunk intruder remarked on the patriotic flags that are usually outside Gaines’ house, he said.
“She asked me, ‘Where is your Trump flag?’ and I told her it rained last night so I put the flags away,” Gaines said — claiming the intruder bizarrely responded, “‘So, you’re worried God is going to p–s on them too?’”
When she was arrested, Clemente claimed she was drinking because she was “stressed” over being the “sole breadwinner” for her family, and was receiving mental health treatment, according to court documents seen by the outlet.
She tried to excuse the alleged break-in to police by saying she was looking for another dog for her own pets to play with, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office records state.
Clemente said she had no recollection of driving her car at the boy on the bike, but admitted she had “consumed more alcohol than she probably should have,” court documents state.
She also tried to kick a deputy as she was being put in handcuffs, authorities said.
The boy in the video was unharmed.
Clemente was arraigned on April 29 and released on her own recognizance. She pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree attempted assault, DUI, and criminal trespass, and is due in court next on May 20.
