A Fort Lauderdale-bound Delta flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Atlanta Thursday morning after reports of a smoky smell inside the plane, airline officials said.

Flight 1334 had just taken off from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta at around 7 a.m. when “a smoky odor was reported onboard,” according to Delta.

The captain quickly landed the plane back at the same airport and no injuries were reported.

“Delta flight 1334 safely returned to Atlanta shortly after departure out of an abundance of caution after a smoky odor was reported onboard. The flight crew followed established procedures, and the aircraft landed normally without incident,” the airline said in a statement.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels.”

Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the smell, which FOX 5 reported was wafting from the cockpit.

It wasn’t immediately clear if any of the 181 passengers on board needed medical evaluation following the emergency landing.

Flight tracking data shows the delayed flight was expected to depart roughly two hours and 30 minutes late.
