A deadbeat dad who stormed into a Las Vegas grocery store and allegedly gunned down his ex-wife and her new husband tucked custody papers under his ex’s arm after the double murder, according to police.

Alejandro Estrada, 43, left the child custody papers at the crime scene to provide police with a motive for allegedly killing his ex-wife, Amanda Frias Rosa, 8 News Now reported, citing courtroom testimony.

“He said initially he shot them both approximately two to three times, two to four times,” Brandon Copley, a Las Vegas Metro police detective, testified.

“As they were on the ground, he said he dropped his backpack to retrieve that red folder of documents, and then he took that and then he tucked that into Amanda’s arm.”

Estrada was under financial strain due to his child support obligations to Rosas, having owed more than $2,800 in child support payments for their two children, a 12-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, according to police and court records.

Neither child was at the grocery store at the time of the shooting.

“He said in the week or two prior to actually committing the shooting, he made arrangements,” Copley said in court.

“He knew that murdering people was bad, but he had felt that over the last few years everything that Amanda had been trying to do with him in the form of obtaining financial support for their children kind of justified this action.”

A grand jury indicted Estrada on 13 felony charges, including two counts of murder with use of a deadly weapon, eight counts of discharge of a firearm from or within a structure or vehicle and burglary while in possession of firearm or deadly weapon.

Noel Hernandez, Estrada’s roommate, said that Estrada despised Rosas for the owed child support, blaming the debt for a failed mortgage loan.

“He was mad because at that period or point when he got child support, he was in the process of buying a condo and when the child support got to him the loan officer had to stop everything… and he pretty much after that just hate her even more ’cause of that situation,” Hernandez testified.

Estrada had multiple weapons on him as he entered a Smith’s grocery store on May 12 and allegedly shot Rosas and her new husband, Victor Frias Rosas, who both worked at the store, KLAS reported.

The shooting only ended when multiple bystanders jumped on top of the suspected shooter and held him down until police arrived and hauled him away in handcuffs, according to cops and witnesses.

Amanda and Victor Fras Rosas, who wed in 2025, were declared dead at the scene.

“He was completely calm. No expression. No nothing,” shopper Paula Milton told the Las Vegas Review-Journal of the alleged double murderer.

“You could tell it was him because everyone else was running and screaming, and he was like no big deal … “
