It was, without a doubt, a memorable moment.

Having it leak that you’re about to get engaged might be one of the worst experiences, even for those who don’t like surprises.

Sadly for one couple, that’s exactly what happened.

A woman named Amanda Bratton, 46, posted a now-viral TikTok video that showed the exact moment her special event was spoiled back in 2017 while on a Carnival Breeze cruise. The video, with 2 million views, has overlay text that reads “Throwback to when @carnival accidentally celebrated our engagement before the proposal.”

In the hilarious video, Bratton is seen sitting at dinner with what is assumed to be her family and friends when one of the cruise waiters serves her a dessert with a candle in it, saying, “We’re going to sing ‘Happy engagement.’” Bratton looks beyond confused as the children sitting at the table with her are heard whispering, “What?” as the waiter and other staff members start belting in song, “Happy engagement to you.”

Bratton looks around, laughing, mouthing, “I’m not engaged,” as her now husband, Gary Bratton III, takes a ring box out of a small bag and asks her to marry him before everyone around them starts cheering.

“He bought the ring from the jeweler on board, and the cake and song was all added,” Bratton told Newsweek. “I think the wait staff was just trying to make it special, but he has no idea why they just randomly decided to sing and bring cake before he proposed.”

It depends on how you look at it, but in all honesty, the ruined surprise was kind of a sweet way to introduce the proposal.

Clearly, Bratton agrees because her caption to the video read, “… It’s a story that has stuck with us through the years, and every time we recount it, we’re reminded of the joy and love surrounding that moment… This ‘pre-proposal’ celebration turned from an unintentional event into one of our favorite stories to tell.”

Despite how this couple views their engagement, thousands of strangers in the comment section of the viral video chimed in with their opinions on the situation.

“carnival owes you an engagement cruise,” joked one person.

“He’s mad you can tell. He had something planned and they ruined it,” someone else pointed out.

“okay I know this wasn’t his vision but this is such a funny story. i hope you guys laugh about it now,” read another comment.

“waiter looking like why he proposing again if they’re already engaged? LMAO,” laughed another commenter.

“Awww I feel so sad for him, but he handled it like a champ!” someone noted about Bratton’s husband.

Bratton too feels that her now hubby handled the situation as best he could. “My husband isn’t one to do things publicly, so for him to plan this out and it go wrong was unfortunate,” she told the outlet. “But it’s a total green flag that he handled it so well. He knew, if he reacted poorly, it would’ve stressed me out.
