Couple praised for taking 5-hour break on wedding day to do this: ‘This makes so much sense’

It’s their party and they’ll take a break if they want to.

While a couple’s wedding day is meant to be one of the best days of their lives — there’s no denying that it’s also an exhausting one.

To combat this, one couple decided to have a 5-hour gap in the middle of their destination wedding in Madrid, Spain, so they — and their guests — could “recharge their batteries.”

In a now-viral video posted to TikTok, foodie couple Felicia Lp, 27, and Harold Vasquez, 28, showed how they prioritized rest on their most special day — something more couples should be doing.

Overlay text on their video read, “When we made a 5-hour gap in our wedding itinerary so we could eat and recharge our social battery together,” among shots of them posing in their tux and gown, which suddenly changed to them in comfy clothes getting food to-go so they could lounge in bed munching before continuing their celebration.

“We wanted to be intentional about how we spent the day. Weddings can be overwhelming and nonstop, and we knew we’d need a chance to breathe, eat, and recharge before the evening,” Ip told Newsweek in an interview.

“While some people were surprised, most appreciated that we were being intentional about the experience we wanted,” the groom added.

The majority of the commenters on the video were in favor of this couple’s bold decision.

“Wait this makes so much sense. Get married in the morning, let people leave for lunch, naps, and then party? Hell yeah.”

“The only con to this I can think of is people like me who would have all the intention to go to the reception but after an hour I wouldn’t want to anymore. did you have any no call no shows at the reception?”

Even a guest who attended the Madrid wedding chimed in with their POV.

“…we were all just happy to be there and celebrate however you guys wanted to. It’s quite literally about no one else but you two and no one needs to twist my arm to go out and explore Madrid for a few hours.”

And since destination weddings are more popular than ever these days — a built-in wedding break is something more couples should consider doing.

Over 15,000 couples, the majority from the US, had their wedding in Italy in 2024, according to market research from the Center of Tourist Studies of Florence.

For American couples, Italy and Mexico are the top destination wedding spots, according to The Knot.
