It was the surprise of a lifetime.

A young diver surprised his girlfriend with a breathtaking underwater proposal in the Black Sea.

Daniil, 21, from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, pulled off a perfectly timed underwater proposal to his longtime girlfriend, Nastya, 21, while diving off Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea, a peninsula in Eastern Europe.

This was the couple’s first-ever dive — and it sure was one for the books.

While underwater, Nastya explored the rocky seafloor. She suddenly noticed a bottle of champagne cleverly wedged between some rocks. Her curiosity got the best of her, and she tried to free the bottle — but as she turned around, she was stunned to find Daniil floating in front of her, holding an open ring box.

In a moment of pure emotion and surprise, Nastya reached out her hand as Daniil gently slipped the ring onto her finger, surrounded by clouds of air bubbles.

Talk about experiencing an underwater surprise.

The newly engaged couple then swam off hand in hand, sealing the moment with a sweet underwater embrace.

The couple has been dating for three years and has traveled to Crimea to work during the summer season. Their shared love for the sea has inspired them to dream of one day settling near the coast.

Some couples are getting engaged in unusual ways — other Gen Zers are jumping on the “quiet proposing” trend.

“Quiet proposing is a new trend where engagements are kept intimate and private, without public displays or widespread announcements, focusing on a personal, low-key moment for the couple,” Ella Citron-Thompkins, an expert for the Diamond Factory, said in a statement.

In addition to keeping things lowkey — many women are also deliberately accompanying their boyfriends to the jewelry store to pick out their own engagement rings.

“More couples wanting to choose a ring together reflects a shift towards a more intentional, collaborative proposal process,” said Citron-Thompkins.

And many are openly talking about it on social media.

“You think I trust to go pick out the right ring that I have to wear for the rest of my life?” said 2025 bride Nicole Elise online. “No. I’m going with him. I picked it out.”
