It’s the low-Costco version.
Can’t decide whether to have a croissant or donut? Not to fear. Costco allows sweet fiends to enjoy both simultaneously with the introduction of their new Mini Croissant Donuts — a hybrid of the two iconic breakfast pastries.
These chimeric confections, baked by Canadian bakery CT Bakery, came to light recently via a series of social media posts by members of the big-box retailer.
“Mini Croissant Donuts at Costco are everything we never knew we needed,” gushed @costcobuys on Instagram.
This mouthwatering mashup looks to be the fun-size version of the Cronut, Dominique Ansel’s iconic flaky, cream-filled croissant-donut that was invented in 2013 and became the baked good of a generation of NYC confection fans.
Due to the intensive process involved in the Cronut’s creation — which takes three days and involves baking it from scratch — they notably limited sales to several hundred per day. Total price: $8.44.
Thankfully, the Costco version is far more accessible to the hoi polloi, coming in boxes of 20 — 10 glazed and 10 cinnamon sugar pastries — that run shoppers $9.99.
However, just like with the Cronut, fans are also going absolutely nuts.
“These look so good! Can’t wait to try,” said one amped fan, while another gushed, “Definitely adding this to my cart!”
Other fans bemoaned the fact that the Mini Croissant Donuts weren’t available at their local stores.
“I can never find any of these things at my local Costco,” lamented one.
Unfortunately, availability for these Cronut spinoffs varies from branch to branch, so shoppers are advised to look on the Costco website to see if their neighborhood outlet has it in stock.
Customers may want to grab them while they can, unclear how long these hot cross-over buns will be available as well.
The Post reached out to Costco for comment.
Reviews of the confections were mixed as well, with some fans deeming them “so good” while one unsatisfied customer dubbed them “extremely stale” and claimed that the glazed iteration was “very wet.”
Another complained, “I tried them. They’re not all that fresh, and cinnamon-sugar ones get very dry. It was a one-and-only try.”
