For a brief, glorious time, guac will be gratis.

Fans of fast-casual Mexican fare can get a free avocado upgrade this weekend.

In honor of National Avocado Day on Friday, Chipotle has decreed a two-day promotion that delivers a free side of chips and guacamole with every eligible order.

The promotion runs from Friday, July 31 through Saturday, Aug. 1 and can be accessed by purchasing a full-priced entrée on the Chipotle app, adding a side of chips and guac to the order, and using code AVO2026 during checkout.

“Our hand-mashed guac and housemade chips are an iconic Chipotle pairing, and this year we’re going bigger than ever for National Avocado Day,” said Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Chipotle. “For the first time, we’re giving fans two full days to celebrate with free chips and guac with the purchase of an entrée, because one day simply isn’t enough for something this extra.”

The promotion notes that kids’ meals are not considered an entrée.

According to the benevolent burrito overlords, Chipotle’s guac is hand-mashed daily and made with “48 whole, ripe Hass avocados, which are revered for their rich, creamy texture.”

Free of preservatives or artificial flavors, it is made with just six ingredients: Hass avocados, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, citrus juice, and salt.

Chipotle describes its guacamole as one of its “most iconic menu items.”

And as of late, iconic has gone international.

Earlier this month, Chipotle opened its first restaurant in Mexico as part of the chain’s international growth strategy.

The new location opened on July 16 in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, part of the Monterrey metropolitan area, and is being operated in partnership with restaurant operator Alsea, according to a news release from Chipotle.

“We are entering Mexico with deep respect for the country’s culinary heritage and a commitment to delivering the Chipotle experience with excellence,” Scott Boatwright, CEO of Chipotle, said in a statement.

“Our research has reinforced our belief that there is strong interest in high-quality, freshly prepared food served with the customization and convenience that Chipotle offers.”

The restaurant chain expects to open between 350 and 370 new locations in 2026. Its international footprint includes restaurants in Canada, Europe and the Middle East, with additional openings planned in South Korea and Singapore.

While guac may be free this weekend, Chipotle has come under fire for its stingy portions and questionable response to shrinkflation.

In May, Boatwright was excoriated on social media after claiming customers can simply request extra if they feel their toppings were on the light side.

“You should ask for a little more,” Boatwright told host Brian Sozzi, addressing long-running allegations that the burrito monger dialed down portions to pad their profits.

“It has always been our brand ethos, and it is still to this day. We serve big, beautiful bowls and burritos.”

Fleeced fans called foul on said ethos.

“If you still served ‘big beautiful’ bowls, you wouldn’t have to make this video,” said one.

Another naysayer shot, “BS. My bowls & burritos always small. Even worse if you mobile order.”
