The estranged wife of Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman has broken her silence after his reported drug overdose.
TMZ reported on Sunday, June 15, that Elijah, 48, was rushed to the hospital a day earlier in Joshua Tree, California, following an overdose. In a statement to People on Sunday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that deputies “responded to a residence in Landers for a male acting erratically.” The police department continued, “When deputies arrived, Elijah Allman, 48, was being evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Deputies located drugs inside the home and Allman was transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.” (Us Weekly has reached out to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for further comment.)
In a statement to People, Elijah’s wife, Marieangela King Allman, opened up about the musician’s “inner struggles” amid the news.
“While it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves,” Marieangela, who filed for divorce from Elijah in April, said.
“Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggles — but it is important to recognize that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat,” the statement continued. Despite the assumptions that often color how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose.”
Marieangela added, “I want to state, without hesitation, that I will always root for him. My support is steadfast and comes from a place of deep respect for the person he is and the resilience he continues to show.”
Marieangela filed for divorce from Elijah in April after 11 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. The couple wed on December 1, 2013. Elijah filed for divorce from Marieangela in 2021, but the petition was later dismissed and the couple remained together through this past March.
In her divorce filing, Marieangela noted the couple’s date of separation as March 31. At the time, Marieangela requested exclusive use of the couple’s residence and their vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Prius V.
“We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish,” Marieangela told TMZ in April. “I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart. As we turn the page to this next chapter, we kindly ask for privacy and truly appreciate your understanding.”
Elijah is Cher’s only son with the late musician Gregg Allman. She also shares a son, Chaz Bono, with the late Sonny Bono.
