A Southern California Christian college has emerged as the Golden State’s most conservative college campus — landing inside a top 25 nationwide ranking for 2026.

The Niche college rankings website placed Biola University at No. 24 overall, making it the highest-ranked California school on the list.

The private evangelical university is about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles in La Mirada and is known for its explicitly faith-based curriculum and campus culture, where students are required to complete Bible coursework and academics are integrated with Christian teachings.

Founded in 1908 as the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Biola has maintained a strong religious identity rooted in conservative theology, while expanding to offer more than 150 programs ranging from undergraduate degrees to doctorates.

The school enrolls more than 5,000 students across undergrad and graduate programs and awards over $70 million in financial aid annually, according to its website.

No other California schools cracked the top 25.

In the top 100 most conservative college rankings per Niche, the Golden State lands just two more spots: California Baptist University in Riverside at No. 44, and National University in San Diego comes in at No. 81.

How the rankings were determined

Niche’s “most conservative college” rankings leans heavily on student sentiment.

Eighty percent of the score is based on students self-reporting their own political views, while the remaining 20% reflects how students perceive the broader political climate on campus.

Surveys are submitted by current or recent students on the platform.

Faith-based schools doctrine

The full list is largely made up of religious institutions, particularly Christian universities, where campus culture often aligns more closely with conservative values.

At Biola, that culture is central to the experience. The university describes itself as “the most comprehensively Christian university in North America,” with all programs designed to integrate faith into academics and student life.

Students frequently point to the school’s close-knit, faith-driven community and emphasis on spiritual development alongside academics, according to reviews compiled by Niche.
