Two buses crashed head-on outside the Pentagon early Friday, injuring at least 23 people, including 10 Department of War personnel, officials said.

An OmniRide bus and a Fairfax Connector transit bus collided around 7:20 a.m. at the Pentagon Metro Station’s south parking lot, according to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA).

Footage shows one of the buses trying to slow just before slamming head-on into the other as they came around a bend during the morning commute.

Ten DoW personnel were hurt, according to PFPA, in what sources described to 7 News as a “low-speed crash.”

First responders from Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax County arrived at the scene and rushed 18 people to the hospital, according to NBC Washington.

Their conditions were not immediately clear.

Five others were treated at the scene and released.

Pentagon officials asked commuters to plan alternative travel routes before they announced that operations had returned to normal around 11 a.m.
