Boneheaded boss asks employee to ‘adjust’ dad’s funeral date and prioritize work: ‘Crazy audacity’

This boss was dead serious when she asked an employee to “adjust” the date of his father’s funeral for the sake of the job.

A bereaved breadwinner is blowing the whistle on his unsympathetic manager after she allegedly requested he reschedule his dearly departed dad’s memorial “because other teammates took leave at the same time.”

“She is aware my dad died 1.5 weeks ago because I put in BEREAVEMENT leave for 2 days immediately after his death,” groaned the grieving Redditor in a viral post, featuring a redacted screenshot of his boss’ callous ask.

The employer’s email reads, in part, “Please can you consider limiting your time off during the window of last week of June through the first week of July, to only a week and possibly take the second week off later?.”

“When you were out last year around the same time, it was an undue stress on the team,” continues the missive, which goes on to indicate that another “key resource” on their four-person team will be out on leave, and a separate staffer away on vacation during the Reddit user’s requested time of bereavement.

The issue has left the guy and his boss hopelessly deadlocked.

“I gave verbal dates in the meeting (to which she did not respond immediately),” he explained to readers of his virtual rant, noting that his family is anxious to celebrate the memory of his father, who’s already been cremated.

“We’re devastated, still waiting on an autopsy report, pooling money to coordinate everything, time sensitive, international travel is required, so trying to be considerate to other family that wants to say goodbye, etc. Final goodbyes can be done with cremains,” he wrote.

“I have 2 weeks of vacation that must be used by [July 1] regardless,” added the worker. “The funeral is not 2 weeks long (and I didn’t even suggest it), but we do have to figure out legal and court matters [and] clean out a house.”

Unsurprisingly, online audiences were outraged by the insensitive executive’s gall.

“Nah f- -k that…[she] can’t get away with s- -t like this,” growled an incensed commenter, urging the Redditor to escalate the matter to their company’s Human Resources department.

“This is extremely unprofessional,” declared an equally irate onlooker, who drafted a mock email response for the guy, writing, “I will be there for my father’s funeral. I will not move the date. I’m shocked you would ask such a request.”

Anger oozed between the lines of another protestor’s post, which read, “F- -k any company who cant see we are people and outside work s- -t happens, and if you cant be there for your employees dont be surprised when they leave and look for better.”

“Some people have crazy audacity,” a critic agreed.

Unfortunately, audaciousness is running amok among workplace bigwigs worldwide.

A businesswoman in the UK was recently urged to quit her gig after being denied leave to attend her uncle’s funeral.

“If I give you time off I’ll have everyone coming to me with special requests,” the boss argued, adding that the bereavement request  may have been approved if the loss was someone in her “immediate” family.

Sadly, some 9-to-5ers — including those with high-pay, high-power positions — have been accused of faking the deaths of close relatives in order to enjoy a few days of paid time off.

But the sins of the selfish shouldn’t impact the innocent.
